W inona In spite of th e how ling w ind and d ren ch in g rain , not to m ention a few flying fir boughs and shingles, th e W inonas gath ered on F rid a y n ig h t as usual and an in terestin g urogram was enjoyed. T h e opening num ber was a song by Jo sep h in e Sha- k an . Lucy Sexton th en recited a poem, E sth e r P aul read a few jokes, E m m a Carlson and C arrie A nderson gave a m andolin d u et, H attie M artin told a short story, C lara H am ilto n . A nna B elgarde and C ath erin e L am bert sang several popular songs, E d n a H ill read an in terestin g “ C hristm as L eg e n d ,” A nna P erry recited an am u sin g poem . T h is was followed by th e m ost enjoyable featu re of th e program , an open house d e bate on one of th e lead in g questions of th e day ta k e n from th e “ H in ts on B e a u ty ” colum n. T h is was wTon by th e negatives. JFlie basketball team is rapidly g ettin g in to shape u n d er th e able coaching of M r. H au ser. T h ere are tw en ty men out for practice each evening. T h e Ju n io rs held an in te re stin g class m eeting last w eek. T h e m ain topic of discussion w as a debate on the relative values of E g y p tia n and A ssyrian civili zation. M A T R O N ’S D E P A R T M E N T Miss Ju lia F ra tis spent T uesday and W ednesday shopping in P o rtlan d . T h e M cBride girls w ish to th a n k S u p t. h aving th e piano tu n ed . H all for T h e lau n d ry force is busy w ith M cBride and W inona H all uniform s this week. T h e m atron has som e very p retty dresses for sale in her office. construction Mrs. Cox was called to P o rtlan d last week on account of the illness of her d a u g h te r. M rs. E aton will leave S unday m orning for Idaho to spend the holidays w ith her d au g h ter. M rs. Cox has not forgotten th a t C hristm as is near. E ach day, w’ith her house girls, she is m aking b ea u tiful roses and w reathes. T he kitchen girls are busy m aking m ince m eat and apple b u tter for the holidays. T h ey have m ade one h u n dred gallons of m ince m eat already. T h e M cBride H all g irls are very th a n k fu l to the p ain ter force for p a in tin g th e ir beds w hite. I t adds m uch to the in te rio r appearance of th e building.
