SEVEN SMALL BOYS ENTERTAIN

Seven lucky little girls, and S u p erin ten d en t and Mrs.
H all received th is invitation from seven of Mrs. L oos’
house boys who en tertain ed w ith a d elig h tfu l party
last W ednesday evening. T h e H allow een schem e was
carried out effectively w ith au tu m n leaves, ja c k -o ’-
lan tern s and portieres of red apples. G am e boards
and fish ponds furnished m uch am usem ent as well as
the ever enjoyable H allow een stu n ts. D electable re ­
freshm en ts consisting of salad and w afers, cocoa, ice­
cream and th ree kinds of cake, were served by Mr.
and M rs. Loos at small tables.
T h e seven little hosts assisted in M itchell Hall d u r­
ing th e sum m er In stitu te. T hey were so efficient th a t
a good m any “ tip s ” were received. T h is sum they
placed in th e h ands of M rs. L o rs, who so kindly and
efficiently arran g ed th is enjoyable little party for the
boys.
LOCAL LORE
A ndrew C harles, a C hem aw a e x -stu d e n t, visited
Mr. Brow n last week. A ndrew is m ak in g good as a
blacksm ith at St. X avier, M ontana. H e secured his
tra in in g at Chem aw a.
Paul Sm artlow it, a fomer C hem aw a stu d e n t, who
since leaving C hem aw a g rad u ated from C ushm an, has
now retu rn ed to his old school to finish his course and
io tak e up vocational en g in eerin g .
A rchie M cDonald is ta k in g a H igh School course at
th e Leon H igh School, M ontana. A rchie was one of
our all around athletes w hile a tte n d in g Chem aw a. W e
are glad to hear th at he is co n tin u in g his education.
T h e girls of M cBride H all are very sorry indeed to
lose M arian M cCluskey.
M arian has been called
hom e on account of the illness of her m other, but e x ­
pects to retu rn to C hem aw a as soon as she can be
spared at home.
A form al inspection of the W inona H all and Mc­
Bride H all q u arte rs on S u n d ay m orning was made by
the S u p erin ten d en t and M atron. Much im provem ent is
noticed in the general appearance of the rooms and
dorm itories of W inona. M cBride Hall as usual m ade
a good appearance.
M uch rivalry between the g irls of th e various d o rm i­
tory divisions in W inona H all has been in evidence
lately . A prize was offered for th e best kept d o rm i­
tory, and th e sm aller g irls of th e school won th e d e ­
cision. T he g irls of room num ber 14 secured the d e ­
cision, alth o u g h num ber 12 was a very close second.
T h e first o p ening session of th e literary society took
place F rid ay evening. R ecitations bv M arie G arre tt
and N ellie M etcalf were well rendered. T h e two
readings by Elm er T h e rria u lt and E arl N uckolls show ­
ed ability and train in g . T h e chorus by the school
choir and th e orchestral num ber of the o rch estra were
fine.
G eorge W assom , of Coos Bay, a form er Chem aw a
stu d e n t, and later a g rad u ate of C arlisle, visited C he­
m awa last week on his way hom e from W ash in g to n ,
D. C ., w here he has been in the interest of his people
at Coos Bay. H e leaves for M issoula, M ontana, in
th e near fu tu re to w ork in th e behalf of the M ontana
In d ian s. G eorge was a schoolm ate of M r. S m ith ’s at
Carlisle.
BOX SOCIAL
By far th e most in terestin g and enjoyable function
held at C hem aw a th is year was th e u n iq u e box social
in th e gym nasium on S atu rd ay n ig h t. In order to
raise fu n d s by w hich th e sm aller child ren of W inona
H all and Sm all Boys’ B uilding m ay be supplied with
am ple presents on C hristm as, about 150 of the larger
girls constructed a rtistic boxes filled w ith good th in g s
for the in n er man and an equal num ber of boys p u r­
chased th e boxes, sh arin g the co n ten ts w ith the doner.
M arshm allow s, coffee, d o u g h n u ts, sw eet cider, sa n d ­
w iches and cake were sold and alto g eth er a goodly
sum was raised.
M uch credit is due to the g irls for th e interest taken
in p rep arin g the baskets, as well as to the boys for
th e ir w illingness to buy. W e are also indebted to
Mrs. S m ith, assisted bv Miss S k ip to n , Mrs. Brewer,
Miss T ay lo r, Miss Peters, Mrs. T eabo, M rs. Loos,
M rs. E stab rook and Mrs. Satiders for th eir aid in m ak ­
in g the evening such a decided success.
FOOTBALL
T h e second team travelled to Salem on S atu rd ay and
easily defeated the high school eleven.
Chem aw a has
a stro n g second team and proved it in th is gam e, p la y ­
ing to g eth er as a u n it.
T h e score was 12 to 0.

H igh school boys and soon planted the ball on S alem ’s
five-yard line; b u t— lost it on a fum ble.
Both touch dow ns were m ade in the second half.
C hem aw a failed to kick eith er goal.
T h e m em bers cf each team deserve m uch credit for
the clean, h ard , gam e they played.
