T h e boys on th e y ard detail will be very glad w hen all the leaves fall from th e trees, as they are kept p retty busy ra k in g them up. M r. Brace, our property clerk, is very proud of Ik ev , his new assistan t. Ik ey is not very big, nor very old, b u t from M r. B race’s rep o rts, he m ust be very efficient. T h e girls in W in o n a Hall have made a g reat im provem ent in th e appearance of th e ir b u ild in g . S u p erin te n d en t H all, on his W ednesday inspection, was m uch pleased w ith th e ch an g e. T h e talk s given by the en g in eer boys in th e ir aca dem ic classroom s show th a t the boys know w hat they are ta lk in g ab o u t and th a t th ey are d o in g good w ork in the e n g in eerin g d ep artm en ts. A lterin g uniform s is the chief order of the day in th e tailo rin g d ep a rtm en t. It is expected th is w ork will be com pleted th is w eek. M r. M cLean is a good m anager as well as a good w orkm an, and th e boys detailed to his d ep artm en t receive splendid in stru c tion. In addition to the usual am ount of rep airin g , the detail in th e shoe shop u n d er M r. Swoboda is busy fixing football shoes, m aking sh o u ld er pads, etc. M r. Swoboda speaks in com plim entary term s of G eorge Law son, who is a vocational pupil in th a t d e p artm en t. A force of young men from the en g in eerin g d e p a rt m ent have largely assisted th e ex p e rt w orkm en, es pecially em ployed, in th e co n stru ctio n of the 50,000- gallon cem ent reservoir ju st com pleted. T h e building of the form s and consequent m ix in g of cem ent and filling th e form s was very educational and th e boys seemed to be g reatly interested. T h e girls in th e different dorm itories at W inona H all are w o rk in g very h ard to have th e ir p articu lar d o rm ito ry receive the prize w hich has been offered for th e neatest and best kept d o rm ito ry . T h e re is also a prize offered for th e best kept room in th a t b u ild in g . D EA TH OF A D O LPH S E ID N E R A dolph S eidner passed aw ay on W ednesday evening, O ctober 25th, 1916, very su ddenly w ith h ea rt failure su p erin d u ced by tu b e rc u lar pneum onia. Burial services w ere held on F rid a y in the school chapel, th e E pisco palian cerem ony being used, M r. H am m ond officiating, after w hich th e body w as'in terre d in th e school cem e tery , in th e presence of the stu d e n t body and em ployes. T h e deceased was fourteen years of age, being th e son of John and C arrie S eidner, of L olita, C alifornia. A dolph w as a new boy at C hem aw a, having only a r rived th is year. D u rin g th e tim e he was here he en- deared him self to his associates and teachers H e w as a brave little fellow in his sh o rt sickness. O u r sym p ath y goes out to his p aren ts and relatives. OBSERVATIONS T h e boilerm akers have about com pleted repairs to the school boilers. T hey have had a difficult job. On cccount of car shortage we are h av in g difficulty in g ettin g m aterials for th e new construction w ork. M r. and Mrs. J. W arn er and little d au g h ter Jane arrived a t C hem aw a last w eek. W e are all very glad indeed to have them here w ith us. Miss S kipton and M rs. R isser have been confined to th eir room s on account of illnes. W e are glad to report th a t both of these estim able ladies have im proved. Mr. W estley reports th a t all apples in th e orchard east of th e railroad have been picked and stored. Q u an tities are yet to be g ath ered from th e w est o rch ard . M arie Shaishnikoff is delighted th a t her various cat fam ilies will have a house. She has in m ind S u p erin ten d en t H a ll’s new garage. M arie is very fond of cats but from all app earan ce; she is not destined to be an old m aid. T h e stu d en t body held an enthu siastic rally in the au d ito rium last F rid ay n ig h t. T h e new booklet of songs and yells were given out and Yell Leader O r- loff p u t th e stu d e n ts th ro u g h an hour of hard p rac tice. P resid en t Downie called on S u p erin ten d en t H all, Coach W arn er and M anager Jaq u in s who res ponded w ith appro p riate rem arks. School spirit is ram p an t these days.
