Wednesday, February 9, 2022 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon STA seeking executive director Sisters Trails Alliance (STA) is seeking an experi- enced nonprofit leader, inter- ested in sharing their talents in a part-time position for the local nonprofit. The activities of STA are currently managed by a cadre of board members and volun- teers. The executive director (ED) will provide organiza- tion, structure, and leadership to board and committees, lead fundraising efforts, manage external communications, and coordinate events as well as day-to-day activities of STA. The ED will be the lead spokesperson for the group and work to deepen relation- ships with members, donors, volunteers, and partners. The STA is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to connect people and com- munities to each other and their natural surroundings. In cooperation with the Sisters Ranger District, the organiza- tion builds and maintains non- motorized trails in the Sisters area including the renowned Peterson Ridge Trail system. The Alliance produces a free trail map, hosts an annual speaker series, and supports trail-related activities. Sisters Folk Fest ‘going Rogue’ with river trips Sisters Folk Festival is offering a pair of music- themed whitewater rafting trips on the Rogue River in southern Oregon this sum- mer. The SFF will once again collaborate with American River Touring Association (ARTA) to operate specialty five-day/four-night music rafting trips featuring pro- fessional musicians who will provide nightly enter- tainment and the oppor- tunity to interact infor- mally with their fellow trip participants. The Rogue River is des- ignated as a National Wild & Scenic River. The first trip is <Going Rogue with Rainbow Girls,= June 12-16. Vanessa May, Erin Chapin, and Caitlin Gowdey seamlessly combine soul-touching harmonies, varitextured instrumentals, and poignant lyrical content into a beautiful sonic tapes- try. Throughout their per- formance, voices are paired with an ever-changing amal- gamation of acoustic and slide guitar, upright bass, harmonica, and an array of vocal techniques that create an engaging and often emo- tionally moving live show. The second trip is <Going Rogue with Tim O9Brien & Jan Fabricius,= August 15-19. Tim O9Brien is a legend in the folk and blue- grass world. The Grammy- winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist first came on the bluegrass scene with Colorado9s Hot Rize starting in 1978. His songs have since been cov- ered by New Grass Revival, Kathy Mattea, and Garth Brooks and he has recorded with the likes of Steve Earle, Mark Knopfler, and Sturgill Simpson. The International Bluegrass Music Association has twice awarded him with Song of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year prizes. Tim O9Brien performs in a duet setting with his partner Jan Fabricius on harmony vocals. Featuring his solid guitar, fiddle, and mando- lin, the shows cover a range of original compositions and traditional arrange- ments mixed with stories and Tim9s self-deprecating humor. PHOTO PROVIDED Music and rafting go together in a Sisters Folk Festival summer offering. <Going Rogue with Rainbow Girls= goes on sale Monday, February 28, at 10 a.m. and <Going Rogue with Tim O9Brien & Jan Fabricius= opens on Monday, March 14 at 10 a.m. The cost for each trip is $1,800 per person, which includes all meals while on the river. There is a maxi- mum of 20 spots available per trip and last year both Going Rogue trip offerings sold out quickly on the first day. A not-for-profit organiza- tion, ARTA was founded in 1963 and runs whitewater rafting trips throughout the western United States 4 from half-day recreational outings to week-long trans- formative expeditions. They donate a portion of profits to organizations that are work- ing to protect the special places in which they operate.
