Wednesday, April 26, 2017 The Nugget Newspaper, Sisters, Oregon Sisters Arts Association Fourth Friday Art Stroll By Helen Schmidling Correspondent This month’s Fourth Friday Art Stroll will feature every- thing from shimmering fab- rics and glass mosaics to the open doors of My Own Two Hands. Stroll through the gal- leries of Sisters between 4 and 7 p.m. this Friday, and sign up for this month’s Quick Draw prize. Visit Sisters Art Works at 204 W. Adams Ave. for a sneak peek at some of the pieces donated by local artists to My Own Two Hands (MOTH), the annual fundraiser for Sisters Folk Festival, in support of music and arts programming in our schools and community. On display that night are the Common Canvas, “Opening Doors” pieces. Clearwater Gallery will be featuring Mare Schelz, Wendy Vernon, and Edie Shelton. Mare’s colorful glass mosa- ics have a rustic and organic feel obtained through the use of glass and its reflection. Wendy’s new jewelry is ele- gant and timeless, with pearls and stones. Edie’s fused glass pieces are both beautiful and functional. Raven Makes Gallery welcomes master stone and bronze sculptor Cliff Fragua from Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico. Cliff will be at Raven Makes all weekend, giving PHOTO PROVIDED “The Three Sisters” by Cliff Fragua. presentations and a demon- stration of his art, and playing congas, along with guitarist J.J. Otero, Navaho. At Twigs, see the work of native Oregonian Linda Goering. Linda meshes vibrant hand-dyed silks with fine wool, bamboo, angora, and other fibers to create unique felted scarves, wraps, and home-decor accents. Sisters Gallery & Frame Shop features wildlife (and some not so wild) works by Jennifer Hartwig, Jodi Schneider, and Carol Grigg. This month, proceeds from the gallery’s sale of all of Jodi’s original watercolors will be donated directly to her to help meet expenses from her recent injury. Studio Redfield will fea- ture new paintings by Randy Redfield. Three large-format paintings on wood panels will be shown, along with smaller studies, and hand-painted ceramics. JoAnn Burgess is the fea- tured artist this month at Hood Avenue Art. Her love of nature is reflected in pastel and mixed-media paintings that use semi-abstraction, color and texture for an exciting journey of the senses. Walk down Fir Street to Jill’s Wild But Tasteful Women Gallery. Jill Neal has created brand-new design style horses, with an emphasis on flowing colors and lines. The new “Lady G” pieces combine women with the horses – rotund nudes with streaming hair ride multi-col- ored horses for a combination of design with whimsy. At Navigator News, see Janice Druian’s latest land- scapes. Janice is an award- winning Central Oregon oil painter best known for captur- ing the beauty of the isolated West. What if an artist never invited anyone to come and see? What is the purpose of creativity if not for sharing? Come and see new works from the winter doldrums, miracu- lous manifestations from just showing up at the workbench, at Ken Scott’s Imagination Gallery. 5 Quick Draw Sisters Folk Festival is donating a pair of tickets to My Own Two Hands, May 13 at Ponderosa Forge, as this month’s Quick Draw Prize. This is a $160 value. Strollers can sign up once at each gal- lery that they visit. The more galleries you visit, the better your chances to win. Sisters Library is featuring paintings and photographs by Sisters artist Linda Hanson, whose new work comes from recent trips to Cuba and South America. Linda will be at the library from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Lisa Belt’s landscape pho- tographs of eastern Oregon will be featured at The Collection Gallery. The Jewel has Jan Daggett’s new designs com- bining rare agatized oak with golden South Sea pearl, black star sapphire, fossil branch coral, golden citrine and natu- ral brown zircon. Joining the galleries open for the stroll is Nature’s Bling, just off West Hood Avenue at 208 S. Elm St. Nature’s Bling highlights the amazing won- der of nature-made art, includ- ing hand-worked jewelry and an excavated Mosasaur skull from Africa, located in the fossil wing. The other galleries that are open during the stroll are Beacham’s Clock Co., Grizzly Ridge Upcycle, Dyrk Godby Gallery, Cha For the Finest, and Old West Collectables.
