Boys lacrosse continues to improve By Rongi Yost Correspondent The boys lacrosse team lost their games this past week, but are gaining ground in experience and skill every game they play. Sisters fell 17-0 at Summit on Tuesday, April 18, and three days later lost 17-8 at home to Wilsonville. In Tuesday’s game, the Outlaws fought hard against the Storm, who boasts a very good lacrosse team. They got better each quarter at stopping the Storm from scoring and gained scoring opportunities on the other end. Freshman Gator Haken got his first varsity start for the Outlaws, and according to Coach Patton played well at the attack position. Freshman Spencer Morgan also got his first start as an Outlaw, and was solid on defense. Bennett Lewis was noted for doing a good job on the offensive end. Patton said, “We have a lot of young players that are going up against older players in the games, and while that’s going to make us better down the line, it creates some chal- lenges in the here and now.” In Friday’s loss, several players contributed goals for the Outlaws. Trey Stadeli scored three goals, Jude Kokesh-Carhart had two, and Tyler Friend, Gator Haken, and Gabe Patton each scored one. Sisters did receive several penalties and had to play a man down for eight minutes. The squad was competitive on the face-offs and won nine of the 21. Friend recorded six ground balls, and Ethan Kennedy and Kokesh-Carhart each had four. Casey Warburton had 12 saves in the contest. Patton said, “We did a bet- ter job this game of moving the ball around and getting shots off on offense. We strug- gled a little with our one-on- one defense, but got better as the game went on. We need to do a better job of staying out of the penalty box.” A day later, the Outlaws were busy with their annual service day. Players and family members from the entire program volunteered and worked on the school grounds. The Outlaws were to play at Bend on Tuesday, April 25. On Thursday, April 27, Sisters will travel to Burns. For the first time in five years the girls golf squad was able to post a team score. The girls played at the Bend Golf and Country Club on Monday, April 17, and posted a team score of 486. Bend took top honors with a score of 353, and Summit was runner-up at 364. Remaining scores were: Wilsonville (377), Pendleton (392), Crook County (423), Ridgeview (456), and The Dalles (547). Cylie Lagao had a very consistent round and led the young freshman squad with a 112. Cylie drove the ball well off the tee and hit a lot of good iron shots. AriAnne Griffy chipped the ball well around the greens, which helped her post a 116, and Emma Farley had a nice stretch of holes on the back nine to finish one stroke back of Griffy at 117. Rose Williams carded a 141. Assistant Coach Phil Lagao said, “Rose is getting the ball in the air, and her distance is getting better. We are so proud of the girls to post a team score. They are all working hard to improve their games.” Coach Bill Mitchell said, “Cylie, Emma and AriAnne were all very consistent, and I was very impressed with Rose. As we all know, post- ing an 18-hole score for a beginner is not easy. There’s nothing like on-the-job train- ing, and in golf you have no one helping you. You are by yourself on an island. “As freshmen girls, the sky is the limit, but only if they want to improve.
