Sanders were in Pendleton Wednesday, having gone down to witness the marriage of their daughter. .: L John Foss, wife and baby arnved in town last night from Moro, Sherman county. They will visit relatives Jiere for some time. . Mrs. Katie Stump announces that she is agent for the "R. M. Ball Im proved Washer." See her and prove merits of this excellent machine. Mrs. Maxwell, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Charles Garrett for several weeks, left Wednesday evening for her home in the Willamette valley. "Don't brush by, but stop and buy a brush," are the words on a placard in a show window at the Barrett Hardware store. The card is tho centerpiece of a fine display of brushes. M. L. Watts yesterday moved into the Barnett property. Ihe house vacated by Mr. and Mrs. Watts will immediately be occupied by Mr. James Henderson and his sister, Mrs. Howe. Trueman M. Dennis, who has been here the past several months assisting in the installation of the electric light sys tem, left Wednesday forBeardan, Wash, where a new electric light plant is to be put in. Perhaps the best window display to be found among the Athena stores this week is at Worthington t Thompson's White House Grocery. Canned goods are tastefully arranged and the artistic effect is very pronounced. Arnold & Jack will be ready to oper ate their machine shop the fore part of the coming week. The force of men at the shop has been engaged io putting in the machinery in readiness for some time, and also the blachsmithing department. Christian church services Sunday as follows: Bible school at 10 a. m.; preaching at 11 a. m. and 7:30 p. m.; Junior meeting at 8 p. m.; Christian En deavor at 6:30 p. m. Sermon subjects: Morning "The Holy Spirit;" even ing "The Sevenfold Cord of Sin." Stevens Lodge No. 49, K. of P., will give an anniversary ball at the Weston opera house, Friday evening, February 17. Music by McMinn's orchestra. The Rathbone Sisters will serve supper in the castle hall. Weston knights will leave nothing undone to insure enjoy ment for all who come. The first one of five carloads of vehi cles and farm machinery ordered by C. A. Barrett & Co. for this season's trade arrived this week. The shipment re ceived consists of gang plows and the famous Henny line of buggies and car riages. Some exceptionally high-grade rubber tired buggies are in the lot, also one of the finest carriages ever seen in Athena. Bruce Wallace's Pioneer drug store has been greatly enhanced in its good appearance by a fresh coat of bright yellow paint. The effect is strikingly handsome on the interior of the store. Yellow is to be the trade mark color of the Pioneer. Hereafter all stationery, and even the wrapping paper, will be of that color. Ely St Scott, the grocers, have leased the Barrett store room, formerly occu pied by the First National Bank, and announce that they will inaugurate a oig removal sale iuonaay morning nexyr The sale will last through the month of February, and prices will be low enough to insure the cleaning up of the stock now on hand. The lady members of Excelsior Tem ple, Rathbone Sisters, took occasion last evening while the Knights were busy at their castle ball, to have a good time "all by themselves." To the num ber of about 20, they invaded the prem ises of Mrs. Robert Tharp, to the com plete surprise of that lady, and made merry the evening. On Tuesday night, Feb. li, there will be a special meeting of the Athena Com mercial association. At this meeting an amendment to the constitution will be voted on that will change the meeting night to Tuesday instead of Wednesday. The amendment also provides for two regular meeting nights in each month, the first and tnird Tuesdays. The county superintendent of schools, Frank K. Welles, has arranged for a local teachers' institute to be held at Weston, Saturday afternoon. AH teach ers within easy reach are expected to attend. Subjects of current interest are to be considered, including "The Em ployment of Teachers," "The School Exhibit for the Lewis and Clark Fair," etc. .Athena will be well represented. Miss Cora Davison was pleasantly and completely surprised Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. andIrs. P. E. Col bern, by a number of her young friends who had assembled to celebrate her 15th birthday, at the invitation of Mrs. Colbern. Some unique features of en tertainment had been prepared for the amusement of the young folks, and light refreshments were served. P. H. Tiedemann came up frpm Port land, this morning and today will dis pose of his residence ' property in this city to Samuel Hutt. The fiat in which Mr. and Mrs. Tiedemann reside in Port land was broken into the other day and two little house dogs were stolen. Wednesday, February 1, 1905, the marriage of Mr. Starr Charlton and Miss Eva Sanders, both of this citr, was solemnized at the hour of 5 o'clock in the afternoon; in the parlors of the Hotel Bickers, in Pendleton. The cer emony was performed by Rev. B. A. Copple, in the presence of the imme diate family and friends The groom is a well known and popular young man of this city, and the bride is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs D. H. Sanders, who reside in this city, Mr. and Mrs. Charlton arrived in Athena on the, 71 o'clock train, and left immediately for the Sanders farm, where they will make their home. .
