Over JJilf a Million Oases Packed. rA: Fi:ancisoo, Nov. 10. .The ' atearaer Haytien lieimblic, which ar- I rived yesterday from Jiodiak, Alaska, brought down a cargo or lo.&UU cases nf salmon. She left nine men on St. j Paul Island, to take care of the can neries for the winter; three at Jvar lnk, three at ICodiak, and three at Alitak. She brought down 225 pas seugers, the majority of whom were Chinese. The Haytien Republic charter with the Kodiak Packing company will expire with the termin ation of this trip. It is understood here that she has been cbarlered to run between here and Puget souud. The arrival of this steamer closes the salmon season in Alaska, as she was th6 last vessel up north. In the early part of the season the salmon run was vety light, but as the season advanced theiun improved, and the result has j been that more fish have been packed this year than ever uefore. .Notwith standing this the year has been a profitless one to many. A number of new canneries were started this year in Alaska and considerable money has been sunk. Some of the old com panies are among the sufferers, while some new companies have thriven, notably the Arctic Packing com pany and the Alaska Improvement companj'. The Hume Packing com pany is in tho lead, although it has fallen somewhat short in comparison with other years. The entiro Alas kan pack for the season is as follews: Cases. Minneapolis, Minn., Nov. 10. The Kev. ,T. A. Graham, pastor of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, astonished his congregation this morning by assuming the role of Robert Els mere, renouncing Christianity and denyiug the Bible and the church and their teachings. So cleverly did the gentleman play the part that a startling scene ensued. Many of his listeners were in tears. Some thought that he was crazy, and all were inexpressibly- shocked at his words. His strange d:scourse was spr ken in a very impres3ive manner, aud not a member doubted that he meant all he said, but ho did not. He was trying to show the people the evil results of indifference iu religion, so that they might get an idea how terrible it win to hear religion de nounced. His main poiut was to make them see the necessity of clinging to the faith. It was a strange way of get ting at the people, but it had its ef fect and gave them au unusual shak ing up on religions questions.
