The Standard reads Canada a severe lesson for in creasing her duties on iron aud steel which, it says, is a selfish policy aud can only tend to sunder the colonies from the mother country. "TLe in crease is made," it says, "on the hol low pretense of a desire to oheck the rapid increase in the trade with the United States in our favor. We de cline the offer with thanks; we do not want our trade fostered at the ex pense of our neighbor, even if it could be done but it can't be done in that way. It is the interest of Cana da to foster trade with the United States by every means in its power. The trade is on the Canadian side largely and will be in spite of the in sane tariff of the United States, and the larger the trade with the United States is, the richer will the Canadian people become and the more business will they do with other countries.'" SHOULD BE VACCINATED New Yobk, June 6. A foul-mouthed blackguard named C. Alexander was pouring out a tor rent of obscenity and indecent lan guage last Sunday afternoon on Wil son & Fisher's dook, and was arrested by Messrs. Nature gives us grandeur of mountains, glons and oceans, and thousands of means of enjoyment. We can desire no better when in perfeot health; but how often do tho majority of people feel liko giving it up disheartened, discouraged and worn out with disease, when there is no occasion for this feeling, as every sufferer can easily obtain satisfactory proof, that Green's August' Flower, will make them free from disease, as when born. Dyspepsia and Liver Complaint are the direct causes of seventy five per cent, of such mala dies as Biliousness, Indigestion, Sick Headache, Costiveness, Nervous Prostration, Dizziness of the Head, Palpitation of the Heart, and other distressing symptoms. Three doses of August Flower will prove its wonderful effect. Sample bottles, 10 cents. Try it. A San Frjinclsco Opinion. The Sacramento as a source of sup ply for salmon-canniDg has seen its day. Specimens of salmon will con tinue to be taken there for years, as in the Kennebec and Connecticut riv-; era; but the salmon are gone from tlir Sacramento like the Indians and tho herds of elk and antelopo that once roamed its tnle-lined banks. A fish hatchery can no more renew the sal mon seasons of five years ago to the Sacramento than it could restock its waters with the Megalosaurus of the Silurian period. Ignorance and greed are fast bring ing the noble Columbia to the same condition. Then the salmon will be crowded up to the far north the last refuge of the whale and the mastodon. Gazette. He was carried to his parents' house, and all that surgical aid could do was done for life, but it was thought last evening that nothing could be done for him, and it is prob able that before this the poor little fellow has breathed his last. i-CBSO.VAL. Probably as much misery comes from habitual constipation as from any derangement of the functions of fho body, aud it is difficult to cure, for the reason tbat no ono likes to take the medicines usually pre scribed. So ho said: "I thank Thee, O God, for making me well; but my nose goe3 thi3 way yet" here he sniffed several times to show that he still had a cold in his head. One of those nice little boys who make a specialty of always saying just what they ought not to, labori ously lugged a large wooden pail into the presence of his maternal grand mother and respectfully asked her to kick it. "Kick it! And why should I kick it?" demanded the old lady. "Papa said yesterday that ho had been waiting a long time for you to kick tho bucket, and I thought I would ask you to do it."
