Dement MIXING RAILROAD BRIDGES. The reason why tho Oregon and California railroad has not yet pushed its way across tho Klamath river was leatned by a reporter yesterday. It is an old story, but ono which a" railroad man who can ac couut for the curious mixing up of freight whilo in transit, will readily believe. Tho Southern Pacifio com pany shipped from New York sec tions of an iron bridge to be thrown across the Klamath, and about tho same timo a Mexican railway com pany ordered a similar bridge which arrived at New Orleans with that of the Southern Pacific company, A general jumble of the two bridges was effected in some mysterious way at New Orleans, and when the material arrived at the Klamath river, the bridge builders concluded that the contractors had sent them a Japanese puzzle to put together. Then a batch of angry telegrams was received at New Orleans from tho City of Mexico, and the agents of the Southern Pa cific company began to understand that some one bad blundered, and that the cost of tho blunder, involv ing the shipment of several carloads of iron a round distance of 4,000 miles, would have to be borne by the South ern Pacific company. The bridge over the Klamath will probably be finished by Slay 1st, and there will remain only twenty-nine miles of track to build to complete the line to a connection with the California and Oregon at Ashland.
