Nothing in railroad building heretofore in the northwest has approached the rapidity and army like system with which the Mani toba company is sending forward material for the construction of the Montana line. For the past three months there have gone through this place daily, on an av erage, 175 cars iBden with all kinds of construction material. At Minot, the present terminus of the track, 137 miles west of Dev il's lake, the company has laid something like ten 'miles of sid ings to receive this material, and along both sides of these numer ous tracks are piled great quanti ties of ties, bridge material, piling and thousands of the best quality of steel rails. Said an old railroad contractor after visiting Minet: 'It's worth a day's travel to see these mountains of costly mate rial" And still it goes forward in increasing quantities. For the past twenty-four hours the train has averaged one in everv two hours. And it is estimated that it will require two hundred cars daily the entire summer, of this material to be sent forward that there may be no delay in the building of this great line of road. 1 AH engines do not Wait at the terminus for the unloading of trains, but hasten back for more cars, and it is not an uncommon sight to see ten of these monster iron hordes on their return with a single caboose car attached to each, speeding along the track only a few hundred yardsj apart; In all this gigantic work there is no confusion, not an accident of any kind has occurred, and all material is separated and placed where it can be reloaded at the minimum cost. The road-bed for a hundred miles west of Minot is ready for the rails, and all bridges (one of which is 1,800 feet long) and water tanks are completed for a distance of 35 miles bej'ond that point. Several engineer corps are already in the field many miles in advance of last year's work making ready for the arm' of over 15,000 jrraders that will soon follow. Helena Independent. CURE Or rNEUMONIA. Hess Road, Niagara Co., ) N. Y.f March 2.4, 188G. f About a year ago I was taken with a severe pain in both lungs. I was first attacked with a violent chill, then a dreadful pain and then a cough accompanied by a consider able fever. It looked very much like a bad attack of pneumonia. A friend of mine procured five Allcock's Plasters. One he put under each arm, one under each shoulder blade, and one on my chest close around my throat. In a few hours the cough ceased, the pain gradually abated and I broke out in a profuse" perspira tion. I fell into a profound sleep, and the next day was almost well. I wore the Plasters eight days after wards, and have never had any trouble since. William A. Sawyer. From the Oregon Code. Section 670. News of a terrible shipwreck, thir ty miles north of Cape flattery on tho Washington, territory coast was received here this morning through four Indians who came overland, having spent tenjdays in the jour ney. For sometime past great anxiety had been felt regarding tho schooner ctipe which was over due. The schooner was owned by Guttrrlan & Co., of Vic toria, and was registered at four hundred and twenty tons. Last week Mr. Frank,' one of the own ers, went up the wost coast on the government steamer, Sir James Douglas, in search of news of the missing vessel, but has not yet re turned. The Adive was engaged in a general coast trade and had a valuahle cargo of assorted "mer chandise on board, which, however, was not insured. The schooner appears to have been caught in a storm which raged during the early part of the month and to have been dashed on the shore where sho speedily went to pieces, all hands undoubtedly perishing as far as known. No one witnessed the disaster, the Indians having their attention first attracted by a large quantity of whisky washed ashore. Bunks, Indian mats, bedding, etc., were all washed up, but nothing actually bearing the name of the vessel. The general description, however, with .the nature of the artioles reported to have been re ceived leaves no doubt that the vessel was the Active. Among those who have perished are: Mr. Jake Guttman, one of the owners, Captain Gotehamel, Offa Jackson, Charles Frederick and Billy Lessing, besides twenty eight Indians. The latter named belong to chief Kilsormat's "tribe. Chief Elso KilhOamat himself was on board, the other Indians being hunters. Tho death of tho chief is tantamount to the extermina tion of the tribes and the Kilsor mat tribe will soon be -extinct According to the custom of his tribe all the huts of the unfortu nate men have been burned. Horses, Cattle and Chickeu9. For colic and grubs, for lung fever, or hide-bound, I give Simmou3 Liver Regulator in a mash tyvice a day. E. T. Tatlor, Agt. for Grangers of Ga. The Indian river in Florida is said to bo tho straightest body of water in the world. A straight line can be drawn through seventy-five miles of its course without touching either shore. It is on the eastern coast of Florida, and is a wide arm of tho sea, which is separated from the Atlantic by a narrow strip of land from half a mile to three miles in width.
