' ' Famons Jackscn Hill No Longer Trouble Autos Jackson hill,, six miles south of Sa lem, and famoasidn the early days of the stato as a lookout point between Portland and the south may no longer bo the bano of autocg with engines not fitted for lull climbing. At a meeting of the eounly court yes terday afternoon, tho court ordered a survey mado to conform to the survey made by the stato highway commission una if the viowCtt should make a la orablo report a toad around the hill will cventv".!ly be constructed. Just at present there is a nine per cent irado over tiie hill, equal to thc-t on Smith High sirect over tho Dan J. Fry hill, traveling south. In tho early stay0 coach days, when Jackson Hill was famous the grado over the hill was Da 25 per cent one. Tho new grade to be surveyed will make the road a five per cent grado. Should tho new road bo ordered, it would require about thrco miles of road building, but tho trend of the road in that section is such that tho general traveling distance north and south would not be increased. If tho now road is built, the present ono will be retained as a community roed.
