Practically AH Business Houses Fill Be Closed Most of Day With the- (losing of all the leading stores of the eity and a agreement of the grocers and meat markets to close at 10 o'clock, Salem will take on a holiday appearance next Tuesday when the Marion-Polk bridge is dedicated. While the city hall, court house and state house may not be entirely clos ed, the indications are that the offices that do remain open will be put on a very limited force, in order that every body in the eity may take part in the Jioliday and enjoy the exercises. i The executive eommittee states that the plans of the day are as those al ready announced.-At 9:30 o'clock Char lies R. Archerd will auction off the privilege of first crossing the bridge. This will be under the bridge at the speakers stand. Then will follow the addresses of Justice Burnett, Dr. Carl Gregg Di'iey and Dr. Esther Lovejoy. At 1 o'clock the 2d battalion will as semble at the armory in uniform for the grand parade, which will be entire ly military in character. According to plans as announced by W. T. Rigdon, chairman of the parade committee, the line of march will be as follows, begin ning at the armory: Commercial to State street. State street to Waverly, between the State house and the Supreme court building. Waverly to Court street. Court street to Commercial. Commercial street past Marion 3qtiare. " The parade will be led by the gov ernor and staff, follewed by the Cher rian band and then the 2d battalion, in cluding the three companies of Salem, the Silverton and Stayton companies and the new company formed last even ing at the armory. After the battalion will march the Red Cross nurses, the parade closing with the boy scouts. The governor and start will review the parade at Marion square. For the first time in the history of Salem, no civilians will bo permitted in a parade, regarding the Bed Cross nur ses and Boy scouts as auxiliaries or the army. The "parade will begin promptly at 2:30 o'clock and will lead to Marion square, where the principal amuse ment of the afternoon will be the danc ing pavilion in charge of the Cherrians, Again in the evening there will be the commnnitv sing, the Cherrian band concert and the jitney dance by the Cherrians as a Red Cross benefit. . Phllipps and others for the construction of the Tra verse Lake reservoir and the Echo Lake reservoir in Baker county for the storage of water at the head of West Eagle creek, and the application for the appropriation of tno stored water together with the waters of Goose Creek and West.iagle Creek for the irrigation of 2321 acres of land near Keating. Oregon. This project involves the construction of two small reservoirs at an estimated cost of $7,000,000, and tho distribution system Is estimated to cost about $45,000.00, the total length of the main canals being about 20 miles. A permit has also been issued to the Big Creek Ditch Company of Medical Springs, Oregon, for the appropriation of 41.81 second feet of water from Catherine Creek for a supplemental supply f'.ij the irrigation of 3345 acres of land.
