It was another gala day and the at tractive ground were dotted with men aid women gaily attired in bright col ored sports clothes. Tea tablet decked with vivid-hned flowers were arranged about the grounds for the refreshments, and here me spectators ana players reveled in the refreshing beverages, which were served cacn afternoon by a group of matron and maids. - At these annual gatherings of the tennis clan from all ever the coast, there always is a delightful side play of gnyeties, that gives the flavor of real fun, after the days work on the courts is over. The usual dinners, picnics, dances and other informal affairs rotmded out the week of festmt". and on Friday night the club honored the visiting players with a picnic at Spoug'g landing, fol lowed by a dance at the Hotol Marion. Now that the frivolity is over soci ety will turn it 's attenton to the gum ner resorts, and the social ranks will be sadly depicted for some weeks to come. On the opening day of the tourna ment the matrons asked to preside over the refreshments were: Mrs. K. K. Lee Htmer, Mrs. Prince W. Byrd, Mrs. L. JF. Griffith, Mrs. Charles Bates and Mrs. IX R. Rosa, Prday, the assistants included: Mrs. fJeorge P. Rodgers, Mrs. Chauncey Bishop, Mr. Frederic D. Thielsen, Mrs. William Walton, Mrs. vhestar M. Cox, Mint Mabel Withycombe, Miss Cathar ine Carson, Miss Ellon Thielsen, Mis Hasel Downing and Miss Aline Thomp son. Serving today were Mrs. Walter L. McDoug&l, Mrs. Harry E. Clay, Mrs. Harry H. Olingcr, Mrs. Zadoe J. Biggs, Mrs. David W. Eyre, Miss Gertrude Gray, Miss Margery Marvin and Miss Rita Steiner. The marriage of Miss Priscilla Flom ing to Willard Rumelle Hall will take place tonight at eight o'clock at the residence of the bride' parents, Mr. hnd Mrs. R. 8. Fleming. Rev. James El vin of tho First Congregational church will officiate and the couple will be unattended. The ceremony will be characterized by charming simplicity and the guests will include only rela tives and a few close friends. Hall, also of this city, has boen in Middletown, Ohio, for the past six or eight months, and returned only Thursday en route to Ban Francisco, where his company has transferred him. www Mr. and Mrs. George Palmer Put nam, who have been away on a few weeks trip to eastern and southern Oregon are expected home tomorrow. They have had a delightful time and have been visting friends in Bend, Kla math Falls, Pendleton and La Grande. In the latter place they joined Bruce Dennis, an old friend of Mr. Putnam's, on a motor trip to Baker, from where they are driving homo in their car. By aixsx thompmb One of the gayest and merriest af fairs of the mid-week was the picnic for which Miss Ida Simmon was host ess, Wednesday evening, honoring her house guest, Miss Frances Stewart, of Seattle. Motor cars conveyed about 16 of the younger set to an attractive spot at Spong's landing, and here they revel ed until a late hour. Supper was preceded by a dip in the Willamette as an appetizer. Burgnardt, Jr., re- turned a day or so ago from Pendleton where she ha been the guest of Mrs. Wilson McNary. Mrs. Burghardt passed several weeks in Pendleton, and during ner visit there, was delightfully entertained. www The John J. Roberts and their chil dren are now domiciled at their sum mer home in Agate Beach. They motor ed over this morning, and were accom panied oy Mrs. rconerts' niotner, airs. William H. Sladc, of Silverton. Mrs. Robert and the children will rend the remainder of the season at the shore. Later in the summer they will have as their guests Mrs. Roberts' sister, Mrs. Gertrude Cameron and her children of Massachusetts, who aro passing a month or so in Silverton with Mr. and Mrs. w. &. made. For dinner Dr. and Mrs. Clay's guests were: Miss Stella Fording, Miss Mil dred Wilson and Olin Lewis of Port land, Stanley 'Fenton and Forrest Brack eit. Mr. and Mrs. W. Melvin Plimpton will leave tomorrow morning for Agat Beach where they will bo the guests of the Asahel Bush for several days. They will motor to the shore with Mr. Bush, who joins his family each week end. Miss Elcno Fawk will leave within few weeks for San Francisco, Calfor nia, where she will visit her sister, Mrs Curl Lnnev (Maree Fawk.) The beaches and mountain resorts are the mecca for motorists just now and each week end is crowded with jolly parties from Salem and elsewhere Cascadia always attract the pleasure loving in the summer and scores ot Sa lem folk sojourn there during the sea son. A party of the married contingent who have Been enjoying ounday pic nics and week end outings together, motored to Cascadia yesterday and will linger there over the week end.
