SOCIETY anil devotee flacked -to
the Salem tennis club courts again
today to attend the final matches
of the annual tennis tournament.
It was another gala day and the at
tractive ground were dotted with men
aid women gaily attired in bright col
ored sports clothes.
Tea tablet decked with vivid-hned
flowers were arranged about the
grounds for the refreshments, and here
me spectators ana players reveled in
the refreshing beverages, which were
served cacn afternoon by a group of
matron and maids. -
At these annual gatherings of the
tennis clan from all ever the coast,
there always is a delightful side play
of gnyeties, that gives the flavor of
real fun, after the days work on the
courts is over.
The usual dinners, picnics, dances and
other informal affairs rotmded out the
week of festmt". and on Friday night
the club honored the visiting players
with a picnic at Spoug'g landing, fol
lowed by a dance at the Hotol Marion.
Now that the frivolity is over soci
ety will turn it 's attenton to the gum
ner resorts, and the social ranks will
be sadly depicted for some weeks to
come.
On the opening day of the tourna
ment the matrons asked to preside over
the refreshments were: Mrs. K. K. Lee

place tonight at eight o'clock at the
residence of the bride' parents, Mr.

vin of tho First Congregational church
will officiate and the couple will be
unattended. The ceremony will be
characterized by charming simplicity
and the guests will include only rela
tives and a few close friends.
Miss Fleming has chosen pink for
the color scheme of the wedding and

boen in Middletown, Ohio, for the past
six or eight months, and returned only

Mr. and Mrs. George Palmer Put
nam, who have been away on a few
weeks trip to eastern and southern
Oregon are expected home tomorrow.
They have had a delightful time and
have been visting friends in Bend, Kla
math Falls, Pendleton and La Grande.
In the latter place they joined Bruce
Dennis, an old friend of Mr. Putnam's,
on a motor trip to Baker, from where
they are driving homo in their car.

One of the gayest and merriest af
fairs of the mid-week was the picnic
for which Miss Ida Simmon was host
ess, Wednesday evening, honoring her
house guest, Miss Frances Stewart, of
Seattle.
Motor cars conveyed about 16 of the
younger set to an attractive spot at
Spong's landing, and here they revel
ed until a late hour.
Supper was preceded by a dip in the
Willamette as an appetizer.
