Mr. and Mrs. DeSantis are entertain ing two of Mr. DeSantis' brothers and Mrs. DeSantis' sister. The question before the debating so ciety was. resolved: that the inventor is of more benefit to the world than the explorer. The negatives won two to ene. Tho question for next Friday is, re solved: that every American boy should have two years' military training. Those for the affirmative are, Miss Goldie Wheeler, Miss Helen Haines, Mrw. M. M. Magee. Those for the negative are, Mrs. Andrew Parson, Frank Harris, r'rrd Dickman. Miss Purdin has resigned as teacher and Miss Schatter of Salem has been si '-nred to finish the term. Irvin Caplinger spent Sunday in Port land. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Lewis spent the Tveek end with Mrs. Lewis' mother Mis. Ada Gardner of Salem. The. Thendora club met at the home f Mrs. Burbee on Wednesday. Beside the members three visitors were present. It was said long ago that on every trial jury there is either "a knave or a fool." It may be said also that on some juries there may be both.' This is not meant to reflect on some of the work of the late grand jury of this county. It according to the report found the driver of the auto that cans ed the death of Miss Rigdon " not I guilty." Who could expect a different verdict! Who ever heard of a serious and fatal accident in which anybody was to blame, excepting probably the one who was killed. The psychology of the individual juror and of the com bined jurors in a verdict is almost be ond explanation. From this may have arisen the "knave .and fool," aphorism.
