This was tho number redeemed by County Clerk Gehlhar, upon a round up trin'to Silver-ton and Mt. Angel, where the hulk of them was obtained; the balance hav ing been taken in at the office. Thov represent a total of $d4:U0. Of this number 4,704 'tai;(,n in t Silverton last Friday. Of t)le total 4,709 were gopher scalps and 1 1; moles. The sculps redeemed at Silver ton were mostly taken bv 107 ,ovs among whom over $100 un.s distrihiiteil in one day. In nbout 30,000 gopher an.l mole, scalps redeemed one silver mule scalp was presented, an extreme rarity in this variety of rodent, and another was captured alive, the captor intending to make County Clerk ridilhar a present of it as a curiosity, but it managed to escape on the morning of the day it was to have-been brought in. One white, of Albino gopher was also captured an! its pelt presented for redemption, which is the first that has been seen so far as can be ascertained, Another freak of a gopher had a tail which very much resembled that of a beaver, being long and flat but was covered with a dense growth of fur.
