Boxinc. as conducted in the "fieht centers" of California, was given legal approval by the superior court of Los Angeles county today, when a jury found Jessie Wilalrd, a heavyweight pubilist, not guilty of prize fighting, in a case that grew out of a fatal match between him self and Bull Young here last August. The verdict was returned at 10:07 o'clock this morning after the jury had deliberated the evidence since late yes terday. Early ballots had shown two votes for conviction, but these jurors later were convinced by the majority. In the trial the state sought to prove that Willard had violated the state law which prohibits prize fighting. By its decision the court defined the pres ent status of the glove game in Cal ifornia, its decision coinciding with a decision given two years aco bv Simer- ior Judge Willis in a similar case ia which Ad Wolgast and George Memsie were defendants. Miko Gibbons, of St. Paul, knocked out Bob McAllis ter of San Francisco, in the soventh round of their ten-round match here tonight. Gibbons got to his man in the fifth, landing left hooks to the jaw and body, but McAllister's work at long rango ovoned up the round. A novel idea in tho way of entertain ment, which will mark a now era in both the motion picture and nowspapor business has been announced by tho Selig Film Co. Tho story of tJieir pro duction "Tho Adventures of Knthlyn," is being run in serial form by a num ber of daily papers, a portion appearing each week, while the photoplay consists of 27 reeds, two and three reels at a time, corresponding with the Btory as it appears in the papers. Tho cost of this enterprise, which includes wild an imals and magnificont scenery, is fig ured in the neighborhood of $100,000, "Kathlyn" is a young lady of ex pensive habits, tho syndicate having paid $12,000 to secure her prosenco in the papers, and tho regalia and personnl wardrobe adjoining her and the a'tend ants having cost the Selig company $17,000, it is said.
