the island of Kiusliiu Las resulted in
largo loss of life and damage to prop
erty. At Moji, on the Kiushiu railway,
100 persons have been killed. Many
bouses in the towns of Kagoshima, cap
ital of the province of Satsumn, have
boon destroyed. Last night tho entire
district afforded a terrifying spectacle.
The ojty was in darkness, tha only illu

cano Sagtira-Jinia, which was in violent

Tho evacuation of Kagoshima was
impeded by a huge rock that bad been
thrown out by tho volcano, which had

at Kagoshima sent this message;
"The city is almost buried in ashes
and stones. Tho people aro in a panic
and a wild exodus has taken place. All
tho operators have fled. This will be

Wilalrd, a heavyweight pubilist, not
guilty of prize fighting, in a case that
grew out of a fatal match between him
self and Bull Young here last August.
The verdict was returned at 10:07
o'clock this morning after the jury had
deliberated the evidence since late yes
terday. Early ballots had shown two
votes for conviction, but these jurors
later were convinced by the majority.
In the trial the state sought to prove
that Willard had violated the state
law which prohibits prize fighting. By
its decision the court defined the pres
ent status of the glove game in Cal
ifornia, its decision coinciding with a
decision given two years aco bv Simer-
ior Judge Willis in a similar case ia
which Ad Wolgast and George Memsie
were defendants.
