FA U'RERS' ASSOCIATION TO D E HELD AT FOBTLANP MARCH fc Oregon FIrt Consumer Lesgoe. . The undersigned Ih hereby enrolled an a Charter Member of the Oregon First Consumers' League, and agree to give (inference In all purchases, price and quality being the same, to the Product of Oregon Uhor, Oregon industries and 'Oregon Capital. Signed P. 0 Tho campaign for "Made In Oregon" products la going right along and many of the wido-awake Commercial clubs In the state are planning meet ings to encourage home manufactur er. The Oregon First ConHumera league that are being organized comtlst of patriotic public-spirited citizen who sign the pledge and then proceed to act upon It. This movement I for the education of the retailer and the consumer to give preference to the product of the home payroll and thu encour age cnpltal to engage In establishing new Industrie and enlarge the ones already In existence. It I estimated tlmt with sortie of the beat and larg est furniture factories In the United Mate located In Oregon, the amount of "Made In Oregon furniture Hold In the stale I only ahout five per cent of tho whole amount wild. It I esti mated tlmt twenty million dollar' worth of furniture la sold annually In Oregon, and only ona million dol lar's worth I made In Oregon fac tories. There aro IB to 20 carloads of gi ant powder old at Bnlom every year, and there has never been a factory In Oil Uts until recently. With railroad construction, road building, clearing lands, and extension of or chard work, there will be an enor mous demand fur thl article In the near future. About 83 per cent of the giant powder la used by the farmers In clearing land. H. W. linyiiumd, the manager of the Uonlte powder made at Portland, Is coming in Hiilem as soon as ho can limkoar rntiKements to make some demon stration In the una of thin article, He was for some time In tho Com mercial Club work at Portland and I a man of great organizing ability, tin did all tho detail work of hand ling tho big nttito Development league convention at Salem lost year, and the ooiiiny Is lucky to 't such a man to piuih their product Into general line In the slate. Mr. Raymond says this in a letter about the new Oretfon-niade explo sive; Uonlte Is tin new explosive, and the only explosive, manufactured In the state of Oregon. It Is made at our company's plant on Sauvles Is land, where we have a tract of 400 acres located on the Columbia River with 400,000 feat of water front. We believe the market for Uonlte will be especially large throughout the state because of the absence of all noxious fumes and gases, because it never freezes, and because it Is safe to handle, and more effective than any otbor powder or dynamite made. As an Indication of what Oregon manufacturers hav to contend with, I would cite an experience I had In Portland the other day: Mr. Mason of the Columbia Wood lllock Crco sotlng Company, that lays wood block paving, had occasion to use 10,000 yards of tarred roofing paper to lay a covering on a bridge. He went to several Jobbers In Portland, who all tried to sell him Eastern roofing iHer and some of them knocked the Kenton product His attention was sought to . be diverted In every way from purchasing the home product, but he Instated on having it. His position was abso lutely right and If all Oregon man ufactured articles got friendly consid eration from other manufacturer, It would help Oregon Industrie amaz ingly Is It not the duty of Oregon, manufacturer themselves to give preference to the Oregon Made pro ducts If they dcslr the same consid eration given" their, product? Harry P. Collin, of Portland, suite 822, Yeon building, I vice president and sale manager of Durable. The Durable Roofing Manufactur ing Company, of Kenton, offices 822 Yeon building, Portland, mukns the following announcement: "It I wltb pleasure we announce to those who are handlers of pre pared rooting, that our plant, which wa destroyed by fire November 21st, has been rehabilitated, nnd la now In operation. We expect to make de liveries of Durable and Perinanlte roofing March 1st. and shall con tinue, a In the past, to manufacture a roofing which will merit the appro bation of tlKttm who desire first- hi m article, and to give prompt and satisfactory service. In the filling of orders." Ray Barkhurst, doing a large tai loring business at Portland, writes: "I am very much pleased to re ceive your letter In accord with your !n bKt'rij; Oregon Made pro ducts. It Is certainly the most valu able movement to assist In building up our state and industries that has ever been brought to my notice, and you surely deserve the support of every merchant In the state. A to my particular line of busi ness merchant tailoring I am pleased to say that I am In a posi tion to promote this movement by handling Oregon Made woolens, and am now In a position to accommo date you and your friends with Ore gon Made cloths tbnt I consider are equal to any of the foreign or domes tic manufacture." Every week we are besieged by salesmen for eastern printing offices for orders for calendars and various kinds of printing. One would not think tbey would walk right Into a printing office and try to get order for eastern firms, but they do. Here Is a loose-leaf book-keeping firm In Chicago that ha headquarters In Portland, aslkng u to buy blank book of them. They are made on a large scale In Portland and In Salem and can be. supplied as good and as cheaply by a dozen firms employing lubor and paying taxes here as from any place In the east Women Appreciate the value of good looks of a fine com plexion, a akin free from blemishes, bright yes and a cheerful demeanor. YOU WILL SLEEP SOUND, EAT HEARTY AIID FEEL MUCH ' BETTER The Mason Ehrman Company, at Portland send the Made In Oregon editor a polite Invitation to buy some Don Casa cigars "Made in Tampa", Florida, They did not send a sam ple of the cigars and got a letter In reply saying that so long as we could, get good cigars made here at home, none of our good money was going to Tampa, Florida. We sent him a copy of the statement of the linker City manufacturer, showing that about 40 well paid worklngmen would be employed In that town' if the cigars sold there could be made there. That Is too much to expect and we only mention this to empha size the fact that there Is a fine op'-' portunlty for some big Portland dis tributer to build uu a big trade on the home-made product. The annual banquet of the Oregon Manufacturer's Association will be held on the night of March 6th at the new Multnomah hotel.
