Inquiring what would be the fate of
the heathen, and the answer that I
got. namely, thnt only through faith
In Jesus, the Ucdocmcr, Is thero any
salvation. Then I queried. What la
the penally of their Ignorance of the
Only Name given under heaven or
amongst men whereby we must be
saved? The answer was the usual one
of all of our "Orthodox creeds:" that
.tbey would spend eternity In a hell of
unutterable anguish. How my heart
went out sympathetically toward every
missionary movement on behalf of the
heathen!

snld. Like others 1 am Imperfect In
every way; my sympathy and love,
therefore, cannot be as grent as that of
our Creator. How Is It possible that
God. with all the force of the Universe
at Ills ciiiiiiiinnil, could look calmly on
and see the operation of Ills own laws

nal misery and yet refrain from giving
those creatures the necessary Informa
tion? 1 said, there Is something wrong
with the Itlblo and with our creeds
which we have built upon It.

might know Thy will regarding ma

ity. I said. Assuredly, ns Hod Is All
Wise, lie must have an All-Wise pur
pose, of which I need liot bo ashamed!
Ho surely as Ho Is Just and loving, all
of His plans and purposes must accord
with these qualities; and having made
man capable of appreciating these
qualities, Ho will surely be willing to
bestow the Information which 1 deslrs
Information as to how I can best
please and serve Illm aud ua to what
His purposes aud Intentions are re
specting mankind.

I returned to the nililo. I asked my
self. Might you have been prejudiced
when you examined It before? Al
though I thought not, I made a fresh
Investigation, because 1 felt there must
be a lievelatlon from the true Cm)

Scriptures entirely I began with the
New. I said. Was not Jesus a most
wonderful Character? Is it not true
that "never man spake like this Man?"
IMIi heart and head answered. Yes!
Ills tea. lungs are the noblest found on
earth! His example fully comports
with Ills P;uhlugs! I asked, Can I
rely upon the evidence? My mind re
plied. Yes. If just such men today
told you their observations you would
believe them Implicitly. These men
coufessed that tbey were Ignorant uud
unlearned men. telling of their own
weaknesses In R way thBt ilu,)08,0
would not do. Their Message abounds
In "good tidings of great Joy for all
people." and not merely for their own
nationality. My heart began to taka
courage. I began to feel that I had
found footing for my faith tnd that
the Dlbla Indeed differed considerably
from tha varlou aud conflicting crtada
which flatroed It as their support tnd
Authority.
However, I suddenly remembered
that much of the Xew Testament is
composed of passages from the Old
Testament and comments thereon.
Alas! I said, for I cannot accept the
Old Testament Scriptures. But the
more I studied tho matter the more
convinced I was that if Jesus and the
Apostles were at all what they claim
ed to be the Old Testament must be as
true as the New-as St Peter declared,
"Jioly men of old spoke and wrote as
tbey were moved by the Holy Spirit."
Then I began a more critical study of
the Old Testament, and to my Joy, as
I sought, I found, as I knocked the door
of Truth opened for me. I found the
Blblo teaching very different from
what I had supposed It to be, very con
trary to that of all the creeds. The
latter. Indeed, each and all, contain
ttulhs taken from the Bible, but truths
lucrustcd with various human creduli
ties and misconceptions the Bible mes
sage as a whole divided amongst many
creeds and made to contradict Itself.
Tha Bible Hall la tha Kay.
To my surprise I found the presen
tations of the Blblo not only more log
ical than anything else In the world,
but absolutely the only logical presen
tation on earth. As Interpreted by It
self, and not by the creeds and theo
ries of the Dark Ages, the Bible tells
one beautiful, reasonable, harmonious
story, from Genesis to Revelation. It
tells nothing of a flery hell manned by
fire-proof demons, aud supplied with
fuel for all eternity, to which Adam
and his race were sentenced on ac
count of sin. On the contrary, It teaches
that "the wages of slu la death."
It tells that "the soul that slnneth, It
shall die;" and tells that Adam sinned
and came under this death penalty and
that all of his race by the laws of
heredity are subject to frailty, weak
ness, mental, moral and physical and
that theso huvo triumphed In a reign
of sin and death for now six thousand
years. It tells that this death Is the
death Into which Adam aud all of bis
race go theol, the fteff of the Bible, for
all mankind, good and bad. It tells that
there Is no pain or suffering there, uo
knowledge, no work of any kind.
It tells that all, both good and bad,
atop, awaiting the resurrection of the
dead. It tells that inuu's death would
have been an extinction as complete us
that of the brute beast had God In Ills
Wisdom and I.ovo not arranged for
human redemption and a resurrection
of the dead, both of tho Just aud un
just. It tells that the Divine arrange
ment whereby God could be Just aud
not repudiate the rulershlp of Ills own
Court nnd yet recover man from tho
death sentence, wus arranged for. The
arrangement was that Jesus, "by the
grace of God, should taste death for
every man;" that "as by a man came
death, by a Man also should come the
resurrection of the dead; for as all in
Adam die even ao all in Christ shall be
made alive, every man lu bis own orders-Hebrews
II, 0; I Cor. iv, 21, 22.

With God "a thousand years are as
one day." (II I'eter III. 8.) He hns
therefore arranged that six of these
great days shall constitute man's perl
od of battling with sin and death and
that the seventh of these great days
shall be the Day of Messiah, the Sab
bath or ltest Day to the world, lu
which Messiah, as the Divine ltepre
senlative, shall lift up all the willing
and obedient, opening their blind eyes,
unstopping their denf ears and causing
all to know the Lord, from the least to
tho greatest.
As a result, some will refuse nnd die
the "Second Death" utter destruction.
No more than a century of trial Is to
be granted, because we read. "The sin
tier a hundred years old .shall be cut
off' a child a century old In sin shall
bo necursed-to the Second Death
(Isaiah lv. 20.) Hut all who will ac
cept Divine favor may then be brought
to full, human perfection, similar to
that which Adaui enjoyed at the 1
ginning, plus the knowledge of good
anil evil, which he Incked.

It Is written. "Every knee shall bow
and every tongue confess, to the glory

The more awake we become the more
clearly do we see the beauty or uoas
Word and the ridiculous Inconsistency
of things we) once believed.
Rr Paul einlalns to us why Satan
strives to put darkness for light and
Ught for darkness. He explains wny
Satan represents himself as an angel of
light and endeavors to besmirch the
Divine character and to make uoa me
very personification of wickedness and
injustice! It is a part of his general
endeavor to thwart the Divine Plan, to
mislead those who are seeking to know
God. Ueoken to tho Apostle's words:
"The god of this world hath blinded
the mlnda of them that believe not,
lest the glorious light of God's good
ness, as It shines lu the face of Jesus
Christ our Lord, should shine Into their
hearts.' (II. Corinthians, iv, 4.)
In proportion as humanity miscon
ceives God's character and His Word,
In that same proportion th;y will shun
the Bible and Its God, and thus get
away from the faith and hope revealed
In the Bible. As I have told you, l haa
my own bitter experiences along this
line. How I thauk God for tho "eye
salve" and for the glorious vision of
the Divine character and Flan which
now stands out so distinctly before the
eyes of my understanding!
Good Tidings of Great Joy.
The Gospel of the Bible, the Message
of the great God, Infinite In Justice,
Wisdom, Love aud Tower, Is a Mes
sage of grace, of mercy, as has em
anated from uo other quarter such as
no other religious book lu the world
presents. Aud what else should we ex
pect than thnt the great Supreme Be
ing would be a Fountain of grace, of
blessing to Ills dependent creatures.
it should not surprise us, then, to find
the lilble clearly teaching that the God
of all Grace has In store for humanity
great blessings "times of restitution
of all things spoken by the mouth of
all the holy Prophets since the world
began." (Acts 111, 11) 21).
Another Message should not surprise
us; It is the. message that was sung by
the angels on the night of Jesus' birth.
Heboid, we bring you good tidings of
great Joy, which shull be unto all peo
ple" the thousands of millions of the
Chinese Included! It is a Joy to me to be
permitted to tell this glorious Message
to such as have the ear to hear It. It
Is a further Joy to me that In the Di
vine arrangement the time Is coming
when "all the deaf ears shall be un
stopped" and when the clear knowl
edge of God's goodness shall fill the
earth as the waters cover tho deep.
God first told this Message of His
benevolent designs toward humanity
about thirty-six hundred years ago.
when He declnred to His friend Abra
ham, I Intend to bless all the families
of the earth, and this ahall be done
through your posterity "In thee nnd
In thy Seed shall the families of the
earth bo blessed." The natural seed
of Abraham was first developed and
Instructed, nnd consequently uplifted,
under n Law Covenant. This arrange
ment prepared the natural seed of
Abraham more than others of the
world's peoples to receive Jesus; hence,
when He presented Himself, nnd when
afterward His message was proclaimed
by Ills twelve Apostles, approximately
sixteen thousand Jews became Ills
footstep followers, were begotten of
tho Holy Spirit at Pentecost and after.
and thus became members of the Splr
ltual Seed of Abraham.
Tho Number In tha First Resurrection.
Hut tills number was short of the
Divine lntontlim-"a hundred and
forty-four thousand." (ltevelation
xlv.) Hence, in due time, the Mes
sage of grace and the privilege of be
coming members of the Spiritual Seed
of Abraham was extended to one ua
tlon after another-to the Jew tirst
but also to ns many ns the Lord our
Cod hns called, of every nation, people,
kindred ami tongue. This "elect" num
ber of spirit-begotten followers of Je
sus will very soon be completely chang
ed by the glorious l-'irst Itesurrec-
tiou, when this mortal and corruptible
shall put on Immortality. AH those
found faithful will be made partakers
or mo divine nature, far above angels
principalities and powers associates

Then the Seed of Abraham will be
completed and qualitied for Its great

a vision as the grim reaper comes, as
come he will to each and every one
that 'tis well for humanity that he
lived; and to the extent that niswora
was endorsed by his fellowmen to
that extent were the dire evils that
so fiercely assail the home, the church
and the school be overthrown, and we
know 'tis a better world in that his
life was spent with us.
Hrother Jory carried the petition
and secured the necessary number of
names to organize Salem lodge I. 0.
G. T., and became a charter member
and remained in it while he lived,
holding the highest offices in the gift
of the lodge. He was also a member
of the grand lodge and was elected
and served as grand treasurer In 1S!0
and 1S91.
