On the 9th 'The Bohemian Girl," on the 17th "Paid In Full" and on the 24th those inimitable newspaper personages, "Mutt and Jeff" will be presented alive and up-to-date. o ANOTHER SLOGAN RIPE FOR HIKING "Justice without sale, denial or de lay; a clean and vigorous adminis tration." Now that is the slogan that Allan R. Joy, of Portland, who today filed with Secretary of State Olcott his declara tion intention to run for district at torney for Multnomah county, wants placed after his name. Joy also says in his platform that he "solicits the votes, of all good citi zens." He promises them that he will make "no discrimination between the rich and poor, or capital and labor." He also promises many other things along the same line. o FRENCH. BARONESS SENTENCED TO DEATH CNIT1D PRESS LB'JJSO 1IH1.! Paris, Jan. 13. Death sentence was today passed here upon Baroness De Couvrigny, and her son was sen tenced to 20 years Imprisonment for the murder of Baron De Couvrigny. Extenuating circumstances secured the lighter sentence for the soir, who shot his father, after the wife had made three attempts to poison her husband. The baron had cut off his wife's allowance. She got her son In toxicated with absinthe, and then in duced him to kill. MANCHU PRINCES READY TO ABDICATE (UNITED TBESS LEASED WIBB.1 Pekin, Jan. 13. Dtlails for the abdication of the emperor and the Manchu princes were arranged at a prolonged meeting of the principal members of the government this af ternoon, and it is reported that the court's retirement to Jehol will take place almost immediately. The Manchu princes agresd that this was the only course open to the throne, owing to the growing disord ers in the provinces. Gover nor Hiram Johnson, before leaving for San Francisco Friday night, Intimated that he was almost sure to join the La Follette campaign in the Middle West. Johnson is eager to go, unless the pressure of state affairs keeps him in California. If he is able to clear up seeral matters, and the signs indicate he will, he will be found on his way East by the latter part of next week. o Cashier Is Missing. Tomales, Cal., Jan. 13. Cashier Louis Bailey, of the Tomales bar.!', a wealthy rancher, Is missing, and his wife fears foul play or suicide. Bailey carried large sums of money. He was last seen Saturday, when he an nounced he might go to San Francisco on business. WHAT MEN LIKE IN WOMEN. We have all heard men grow elo quent over the charm of modesty in a woman's behavior, dress and con versation.
