That the Washington State college experiment Btatton has propagated now varieties of wheat which aro proving of excellent quality, yield well and are, in fact, almost Ideal wheats for this section, seems cer tain, says a Pullman item. After many yearB of patient work, started by Professor W. J. Splllman, now with the department of agriculture at Washington, D. C, nnd followed by his successor, ns head of tho col lege experiment station, Professor E. E. Elliott, theso new varieties of havo been perfected and are pro duced In Btifilclent quantities to seed vast areas. Professor Elliott distributed somo of the seed among n lot of the be-t farmers, trying to get somo of it In every neighborhood 'that could be reached and requesting that tho grain bo corofully watched and re ports sent in showing what had been accomplished. Theso reports are coming in and nlmoBt every ono shown splendid results. Hybrid Bct Wheat Grown. C. A. Price, a grean dealer of Pullman, who has a fine farm near town, said: "My hybrid wheat has yielded well and Is of excellent qual ity. I bolJove It will provo one of tho best grains over grown hero. I have been urging that not n bu-hcl of this wheat bo Bold for export, but that It all 'bo used for reed. If tho Washington Stato college had ac complished nothing, else but produce theso Improved varieties of wheat It would provo a financial blessing to the stato and tho entlro northwest." C. B. Kegloy, master of tho Wash ington Stnto grange, said: "My hy brid wheat averaged a little moro than 40 bushels per1 acre. My red Russian averaged 26 busholo. Tho two fields Join, tho Bell Is the sam-, tho ground was cultivated In the samo way, and sown at tho same time, tho Boeder going from ono flold to tho other, part of both bo Ing plnntod tho samo day. Tho hy brid wheat Is worth moro thnn tho red RuBslnn. With nn Incrondo of 40 per cent In tho yield nnd 2 to 4 cents additional on tho prlco, fur ther comment seems unnecessary. It costs no more to rnlso nn aero of ono thnn of tho other." GetH Applications for Seed. A. J, D. CornolhiB of Colfnx wrltes: "I am much pleased with my hybrid whent. Wo havo not threshed It yot, but It promlttos bo woll that I havo had moro than 20 applica tions for somo of tho seed. Will lot you know moro when it Is threshed." J. A.
