M, palton of Burns, newly elected treasurer of Harney county, inquiring as to the date when the county treasurer elect ed at the last general election shall assume the duties of his office under the constitutional araendme,nt voted, on the same election'. The letter was written after read ing n newspaper article which con tended that ns the newly elected offi cer could not Bhow that he wbb elect ed prior to tho adoption of the con stitutional amendment, ho could not tnke his seat until January 1. DEATH OF MRS. JOHN HOLMAN. Mrs. Jennie Weeks Holman of this city died after severe and protracted suffering nt her home, 434 High St., Sunday afternoon at 1:30, aged C7 y3rs, surrounded by her husband children and grand-children. She wos one of the plonser3 and best known women of thh city, having come here In 18C7, two yearB aftor I her husband located here, coming from Ontario. She was born Jn Lon don, England, Mnrch, lS41,wasmar ried to John B. Holman at London, Ontario, July 3, 1801, where two . children were born, one Walter J. who resides in Snn Francisco. At Salem two daughters were born, Mrj, iVictor'a Lunn, nnd Mrs. Geo. Meyer. She was a devout member of the Episcopal church all her life. The funeral service will be held Wednes day at 3 p. m. at the family resi dence, but the Interment will be pri vate. A sketch of her life and character will appear later. o PERSONAL Dr. J. C.
