R. K. Page, manager of the Salem branch of tho Portland Railway, Light & Power Company, declared ithat the country should be developed In order to secure a railroad. Ho spoko highly of Stayton's water power. A. F. Hofer, Bocrotary of tl)o Sa lem Board of Trade, declared him self " a bashful boy," but neverthe less mndo a flno talk.
