The hop growers In .this section aro. between tho 'devil and tho deep sea this "year, as far as prices for tholr hops go, for there are no prices, and tho grow ors havo no means of knowing whon a prlco will be made, or what It will bo. In tho Aurora, Buttovllle and Hubbard districts the hop crop Is as largo, If not larger, than last year. Tho yield Is so heavy In many yards, that tho hops aro breaking down tho wires and pulling down tho posts. Tho big bulk of tho crop will grado good, but with all theso favorably conditions thero aro many growers who say they will not pick a. pound of hops until thoy soo a prlco In Bight that will Insure their coming out even on the crop, and It tho prlco docs not warrant their picking they will plow up their ynrds and go In to aomo other brnrich of agriculture. About 90 por cent of the growors who havo decided to pick will pick by weight Instead of box measure, as In former years. Nearly overy grower is In fnvor of tho weight ays torn, but In tho past hnvo had to bo governed by tho wishes of tho pick ers, but this year tho growers think thoy can force tho pickers to tho weight system, and aro going to uso it. Tho growors havo had no diffi culty In securing all tho pickers thoy need. Many of tho plckors havo worked In tho Bnmo yards for years, and tho growors dopend upon them each year. Picking will begin In aomo of tho early ynrds th 26th, but will not becomo general boforo Sep tember 2d. Some yard will not be gin tholr harvest boforo Soptombor 10th or 15th. Vory fow contracts havo boon mado In tho above districts this year. Editor (to artist) I refused your drawing a year ago. Why do you bring It hero again? Th6 local market has been llfolos's tho past wek, and no Inquiry (s noted. A few sales aro reported from tho Pacific coast at from 4 to 6c, but tho volumo of business. fa very small. Brewers apparently aro woll stocked, and oven tho low prlcos prevailing today do not seom to tempt them Into tho markot. Tho crops continue to mako satisfactory progress. Prom Oregon roports aro very favorable, and tho hot weathor has killed off tho ,llco which threat ened to becomo serious some timo ago. Tho samo condition provalls in. Washington nnd California and good crops Boom nssurod. Picking will commonco next week In tho Sacramento section In California. Now York stato roports aro decidedly favorable, and tho early varieties aro rapidly ripening. Picking of tho regular lato hops, however, will bo a week .to ten dnyB later than usual on 'account of tho backward spring, which delayed tho" growth of tho vino. Pine weathor prevailed In Englnnd and on tho Contlnont, and tholr crops aro In good condition. Tho Gorman market Is, lower and weak, and tho English markot Is said to bo in tho snmo position as .tho market here. ' Wo notlco tho unusually largo ox- port of hops to London tho past fow. wooks, amounting to ovor 9000 bales slnco tho first of July. Hop Conditions in England. (Maldstono South-Eastern Gazotto,' July 31.) Ashford Thero seems to bo an In croa80 of vormln, and Bomo gardens, In Bpito of washing, aro going off pretty "badly. Others still look fair ly 'well. Ashford, West Tho hops nro do cldedly Improving in this district, nnd whoro woll washed aro mostly clean, but thoro nro many gardens that, from lack of attention, can grow but very few. Benondon Tho blno In most gar dens continue to grow, but on tho thin boIIs tho plant Is getting vory yellow. There Is still too much, ver min. Canterbury and District Tho brighter wenthor of tho past fort night has boon very welcome. Tho blno In tho woll-cultlvated gardens Is growing woll, but In tho majority of tho plantations It Is vory back ward. Fresh attacks of fly aro re ported, necessitating continuous washing, whilst mold has mad.0 Its appoaranco in sovoral places. Dur ing .tho 'wook prlcos have remained firm, scvoral amallor parcolg having sold from 75s, whllot ono good-stood lot changed hands at 80s. The quantity of hops In tho hands of fac tors is exceedingly email, and In view of tho fact that It la computed that botwoon 3000 and 4000 acres of hops havo been grubbou" this year, and that tho gonofal crop Is cortatn to bo much bolow tho average, It Is probablo that tho demand will vory much moro than oxceod tho supply of English hops. vFaVorsham and , District The plant has grown woll and Improved In appoaranco during tho past week, but undor tho boat condition now a henvy crop cannot bo looked for. Maldstono and District Thoro has boon an lncrcaso of vormln during tho past week, and washing Is still necessary. Tho growth during tho wook has boon satisfactory, and tho best cultivated gardens havo a prom ising appoaranco. Tho Modway Valley Still thero is too much vormln, and ns fresh fly koop arriving It is a caso of wash, wash, wash. Tho Brnmbllngs aro showing burr, nnd Bhould tho llco got into It to kill them would bo Impos sible Wnrm nights aro much want ed and hot aun to causo tho nlggora to work nnd got Into tho burr to kill tho llco. Thoro la a good bit of mold. Turnbrldgo Woll nnd District In this district thoro Is urifortunatoly a marked appoaranco of honoydow In tho gardens, and this appears to bo fairly wldoBproad, notwithstanding continuous washing. Worcester Tho weathor during tho past wcok has boon wot, nnd for tho most part cold, bo tho improve ment in tho hopes of growors, In spired by tho warm weather of tho previous week, has not been main tained. Tho dolugo during tho thun der storm a wook ago did a good deal of damago in plncoa. Hereford Tho hops aro making slow growth, but tho yards look well on tho whole. Thoro is some amount of vormln, howovor, and mold has mado Its appoaranco, this .bolng much earlier than usual for tho prosonco of this pest In" tho Horofordshiro plantation84 Washing with, . horso machines has been, Impossible, during the wook, owing 16 tho sodden Btato of .tho : ground. Mosars. Manger & Hcnly, London. S. E ropert: Notwithstanding tho porslstont washing restortcd to by growers, vormln still liavo tho upper hand. Unless atmoaphorld Influences Intervene quickly, a considerable por tion of tho plantations will bo la a critical position. Market qulbt but vory firm. Messrs. W. II. & II. LcMny, Lon don, repert: Thoro Is a small con sumptive trado doing, and prlcos aro exceedingly firm.' Stocks aro In a vory Bmall compass. Tho roports from tho plantations all speak of-a cuntinuanco of vormln, and washing Is general. Tho blno has mado far progress during tho past wook. o Swell Jones In Town.
