Tho volunteers who offered to sacrifice their lives for future gen erations have had no recognition. If Dr. Itced had devoted to private practlco the signal ability which he gavo to tho public, he would have left a comfortable competence and perhaps a largo fortune to his wife. As It was, ho loft her comparatively unprovided for. A volunteer sub scription for n fund of $25,000, tho income of which would bo devoted to Dr. need's widow and daughter dur ing their lives and tho principle after their death to a monument to his memory or to tho promotion of re sults In his special field of work, has halted at $17,000. Thero ought to bo plenty of prlvnto contributions to complete this subscription. And congress, which passes Innu inornblo pension bills with but sennt consideration, would do well to mnko a genorous appropriation to this fund, and provldo nt least medals to bo presonted to tlio nameless heroes who hupplly survived thoso terrible experiments.
