The Journal does not wish to condemn the organization of base ball clubs, for the old adage, "the more the merrier," is probably as true las it ever was, but it is nevertheless a matter of regret that the Capital City cannot support a representative base ball organization, ready to cross bats with the neiehborine cities. To the old-time fans, and those who liked to see the game played by the best tal ent the city can produce, the pr&sent condition of affairs in baseball is not at all satisfying. Nurserymen Win from Brickmakers. Tho Nursery ball tossers put the Brickyard aggregation to the bad on Sunday morning to the amount of 14 to 10. The features of the game was the pitching of Bowen and Walling, who kept their hits well scattered; Gamble, at second, played fin ball, and Hixea used the willow to good advant age. Taken as a whole it was a well played game, and it furnished plenty of opportunity for the crowd to cheer. The batteries were: Nursery Walling, Xorthcutt and Ashlev. Brickyards Bowen, Simpson and Hinen. The game was played on tho nursery diamond. Woolen Mills Beat Lincoln. Talk about flamboyant pyrotechnic display!, the Woolen Mills baseball team surely had it yesterday when they defeated tho Lincoln baseball tossers by the score of 35 to 4. The "K's" never had so much fun In their lives, so easy was their opposition. The Woolen Mills battery was Swegle eatcier, and Bones pitcher. Touched for Six Bsss by Silvertoc. A picked team from Salem went to Silvertoa to trv conclusions with the baseball boys there, only to return hug ging a large goose egg, while the Sil vertoa baseball tossers. had six points to their credit when the last Inaing was completed. Bnmor has it that tie Salemites never saw third base. South Salecx Loses to ladepeedence. Tke South Salem baseball team went to Independence yesterday to play the team of the Polk county town. A large attentate was present to eieer their respective favorites. The final score was 6 to 2 ia favor of the Iadepead eaee tears. The batteries were: Clark aad Clark for Soath Salem: Craven aad Smith for Independence. Nurserymen Again Trim Ftcitland. G held an excellent target practice yesterday. Since it haa been decided to hold tho aasual shoot at the local range, the militia men have resolved not to let tbo medal go to another corn pay, and, while the interest in shoot ing has always been uppermost in the minds of the members of Company M, the fact that the state tournament will be pulled off nere has only served to Increase tho interest. Some fairly good records were made yesterday. Exposure. To cold draughts of air, to keep and cutting wind?, sudden changes of the temperature, scanty elothisg, undue exposure of the throat and seek after public speaking and singing, bring on coughs and colds.
