The Southern Branching Out.
Knoxvllle. Tenn.. Feb. ia.-The
work on the new line between Hnv
breevllle. Tenn.. and Marion, N. 0

ed to W. J. Oliver Co, of this city,
has begun, and will be pushed with
great energy. The road, which will be
about so miles long, present many
engineering dlMcnltlea, and will re
quire a number of tunnel. IU coat
will exceed S4.0O0.uO0. The iouthera
has been practically forced to build
this line, owing to the fact that the
South and Western railroad built a
branch along tho Wsulauaa river In
to the Carolina. The now line will
be an Important coal lino, and will
save the Southern a haulage of about
70 mile. At present the road is
hauling all the coal from the Virginia
Held Into I he Carolina by way of
Morrlstown. It will require fully
thrra years complete the road.
