"Wallace, tho Indian wo man, whoso name so often appears upon tho polico court dodkot, was arrested again last night, as was her "friend," John Gilpin, in the Eldridge rooming house, on Commercial Street, where tho pair had mado their headquarters. Tho Wallace woman was arrested on January 31st, and. sonteuccd to 20 days in tho city jail, but, upon promising to leavo town and return no more, sho was roloased. Last night it was learned by tho polico that sho was in tho city again, and was onco moro visiting her friends in Chinatown. A visit was mado to this neighborhood by tho offi cers, whoro it was learned that Gilpin had como after her, and taken her away, but tho Colestials claimed they did not know where. Aftor a short search tho couplo woro found in tho Eldridgo, and thoy woro promptly ar rested. Tho woman still has 19 days on her January sontenco to servo, and tho man will bo detained until a pre liminary examination of both of them is held on tho charge of lowd cohabita tion, which will mean that thoy will bo bound over to await tho action of tho circuit court, and, upon conviction, about six months in tho county jail. John Lickusky, an ex-convict, who served 15 years for tho state, was ar rested this morning about 3 o'clock and lined $10 this morning by Judge Mooros. Madam Dollarhide, another of Sa lem's notorious characters, narrowly escaped being gathered in by tho mighty arm of tho law last nightalso, for sho had been located by tho police, but when a trip was mado after her, it was learned that her trunk was packed, and sho had started for pastures now. UNIVERSITY LABORATORY. Salem Institution Will Be Better Equipped Hereafter. Tho equipment of tho University laboratory was greatly incrcasod yes torday by tho receipt of a lnrgo ship ment of apparatus. Included iu this were a Winmhurst's static machine for X-l?ny and wireless telegraphy, a lab oratory microtome, tort'iou apparatus i'or determining strongth of wood and iron beams, accurately ground parabolic reflectors, accurately meas ured sonomotor, Kundt's apparatus for determining velocity of sound in nir and metals, and a quantity of electric apparatus. Two othor shipments aro on the way, each of which aro larger than either of tho ones received thus far. Public Is Aroused. Tho Bach recital by tho Collogo of Music, given in tho University chapel last night, was well attended, and well givon. Each number on tho program was tho work of tho famous composor, who is to music what Shukespearo is to literature. ' Introductory to tho program Prof. Newberry, principal of tho piano de partment, mado a few interesting re marks on Bach and his achiovemonts. Tho numbers wero all woll rendered, but the baritone solo, "Avo Maria," by R. II Zercher, was, without doubt, tho best received of tiny.
