What Is reasonably believed to be tho skull of the lato Senator A. W. Reed, of Douglas county, who was drowned a few miles below Winches ter on April 8, 1899, was found Tues day by John Freyer, near Dlmmlck's ferry, below Kellogg. Attorney Albert Abraham, who was at Mr. Freyer's placo laBt week on business, mado a minute examina tion of tho skull and his knowledge of phrenology enabled blm to discern tho fact that the skull was that of a per son who had moro than ordinary num tal faculties. Mr. Abrahams, upon re turning to Roseburg compared his phrenological analysis with a photo graph of Mr. Reed and not the slight est discrepancy wan noticeable. It would seem that thero Is llttlo room mi for doubt as to the skull being that of Mr. Reed, and it will bo sent to his nephew, Warren Reed, at Gardiner, where the headless boay was taken for Intorment. Roseburg Review. Lln County Mines. John Hantelman last spring located six mining clairis three miles above Whltcomb, for an Oregon City com pany, and, after doing some work on the claims, spent some months near Mt. Hood, Investigating other claims for his company. Now he has re turned with a force of men to dovelop the claims near Whltcomb, which are situated at the foot of French Cavo mountain. There is a large body of ore in these mountains, and, while It runs only $8 to $10 per ton, yet it has many advantages, being within easy reach of a wagon road. A very few days' work will complete the road to the mines. G B. Whltcomb was down from that vicinity last Saturday, and says tho mines are good ones, and will bo heard from In the future.
