Kylo read a favorable report from tho trip he has just . mndo to the large markets on Puget Sound. He favors Bales through a broker at the larger cities, and' an swered all the questions that were put to him by interested members of the union. A number of growerB Joined tho union in answer to the appeal sent out by the committee, and the report of the secretary and his recommen dations wero adopted. The growers report a flno outlook for a crop of strawberries, cherries and all small fruit. Tho Italian prune crop will ho very short, hut plenty of Petites and other varieties. Annie Mor rison, of Baker City, Or., who says she ran away from home a year ago, and has traveled 1300 miles on tho brakes in woman's clothes since that time fromi Portland, Or., to Minneso ta, was arrested here today for wear ing male attire and fined $20. Being unable to pay, she was committed. Her companion, a man named Ed. Grant, who says ho is out of tho Ore gon penitentiary on Parole, was fined $200 for carrying concealed weapons, and held ponding messages from tho Oregon officials. Tho girl Is tall, slender and pretty. She says her parents abused her. She evinced no porturbatlon when arrest ed, saying she was so used to men's clothes she did not realize she was committing an offense. (E. L. Grant, who is referred to in the abovo dispatch, was released from tho Oregon penitentiary on March 4, of this year, having sorved his time. He was convicted! of horse stealing In Umatilla county, and sentenced to 1 years In the penitentiary. Ills true name is Weston, and he has a brother who is giving tho ofTlcers in Eastern Oregon and Washington at the present time. Tho state of Ore gon does not recognize the parole sys tem, and tho dispatch is in error. The officials at the prison had not re ceived any communication when their attention was called to the Montana affair.) Erlckson'o Expedition Has Arrived After a Trip of Fearful Hardship. Baker County Miners Driven from Shaft by Flow of Water. Baker City, Or., May 21. The men working in tho Cyclone mine, about six miles east of this city, struck a flow of hot water yesterday afternoon, Thoy wero driving a drill hole at tho tlmo, and cut through, Into the gey sor. The hot water rushed out into' tho tunnel with a roar, and the men barely escaped being soverel scald ed. The water was about 11Q degrees at first, and became warmer as it flowed until It was scalding hot. Tho pumps aio working now, and tho flow of water ia under control, but tho mino in that vicinity Is uncomfort ably warm) on account of tho steam. It is not a new thing to encountor hot water in that vicinity. Tho old Virtuo mine was often the scene of. such experiences, but, as a rule, tho hot water could soon bo disposed of.
