Saturday for the purpose of consider Ing tho contracts for picking, packing, grading and delivering the crop of 1903, through tho management of onu central distributing firm at Portland, with a local manager at Portland. All tho stockholder present signed tho contract, but one or two wanted timt to consider, and an adjournment was taken to the next regular meeting, Saturday. April 26th. SHOT BY HIS FATHER Desperate Pole After Killing his Son Resists Arrest Attempted to Murder Landlady His Buffalo, April 13. A shooting af fray in which a 9-year-old boy was killed and a woman mortally wounded an attempted murder, two suicides and two attempts at sulcldo that may result fatally occurred In this city to night. Joseph Kwaltkowskl, 31 years old, a Polish citizen Is locked up at police headquarters, charged with shooting his landlady and killing his 9-year-old boy. He formerly conducted an ex tenslvo business In One of the city markets. Slnco tho death of his wife, a year ago, business difficulties drove him to drink. Tonight when Kwalt kowskl returned homo Mrs. Tekla Wollnskl, his landlady, notified him that he would havo to move, where upon he drew a revolver and began firing, backing out of the house as he did co. Mrs. Wo! In ski followed .him and grappled with him. He pointed tho ruvolvor at hor breast nnd flrod. Sha foil to the ground mortally wounded. Kwaltkowskl fired several mora shotH, ono of them striking his own 9-yearold boy. killing him Instantly. A large crowd quickly gathered, and he rotroatcd Into the bouse, lock ing tho door bohlnd him. When tho ofllcers arrived ho barricaded the doors, and begnn firing through tho windows nt thorn. The officers 11 red about 30 shots through tho windows, but railed to hit him. Kwaltkowskl continued the flro until his ammuni tion was exhausted. Tho offlcors then bnttored down the front door, nnd found the Pole hiding In n cIoroL He gave a doaporate battle with a stiletto before ho was finally ovorpowered. Pennsylvania Floods. At 10 p. m. the train, which was hwirily laden with passeng ers, cannot be located, und the fear is fur the wont. The coal trutflc from the Imperial district of the Pittsburg Coal Com pany will be nt a standstill for sever al days, until tho railroad can bo built over. Farmers In the valley will suf fer great loss, as many fields were nl- mom ready for planting. Later reports from Imperial say that th train which had been reported Unit had been found at Montour Juno Hon. When the track was washed uwny the trainmen decided not to at torn in the return trip. A rain storm here Sunday afternoon amounted to almost a claud-bursL Tho streets for a short tlmo became mlnaturo rivers, and thousands of dollars of damage was dono by flooded cellars. One man was killed by lightning, and many buildings were struck. Center street for blocks was flooded and stret car traffic was almost entire ly suspended in the eastern portions of tha city. The loss of property In the thirty- seventh ward was great. A house in Coal street was almost swept from Its foundations. Thousands of feet of lum ber were carried away from tho Pitt street' yard, on the Pennsylvania rail road, in wllkensburg peoplo were driven Into the second storiess Druco Marcum. a Jackson, Ky., young man of good family.' has, under the vagrancy law. been sold Into ser vitude for six months. Marcum is so averse to work that tho highest bid was $6.50.
