Armstrong Is half Spanish, 35 years old, and for a year or moro has been keeping com pany with tho young woman, who is tho teachor of tho Muddy -Crook school, and mndo hor break off tho engagement Armstrong wrote tho girl a few days ago, threatening to "make It not" for her .if she broko with him. Christmas thero was a big danco at Rcddluga ranch, near North Powder. Tho girl went In company with another man. Armstrong was there and boenmo In sanely Jealous. A 3 o'clock, when tho danco broko up, Armstrong lay In wait at tho gato of a neighboring ranch, whore Miss' Eusmlngor was to sleep. As sho entered tho gato Arm strong shot her in tho back with a long now Colt's rovdlvcr, and as sho foil ho sent a second shot into her left breast Ho then .took a shot nt him self, tho bullet barely gracing his left tomplo. Ho was soon corralcd and taken In chargo by tho town marshal. A mob watched ovor him, ready to lynch him as soon ns tho girl died.
