During tho forenoon tho Workmen decided on Portland as tho place for tho next annual meeting of tho grand lodgo, to convene on tho third Tuesday in July, 1001 . The installation of the grand ofU cors elected on Wednesday took place also, S, A. McFadden, grand representa tive, acting as Supromo Maater Work man. Tho delegates to the Sovorolgn Grand Lodgo at Buffalo, were instructed to uso their lHst efforts to have that body select Portland for tho place of its an nual meeting in 1002, There la already a sentiment among the eastern moinbcrs in favor of Portland, and it la hoped that the meeting can be secured. The Degreo of Honor did not reach tlio installation of olllcers beforo the noon adjournment, and the ceremony was sot for 1 o'clock. Powell, professor of mathe matics at the State Normal School, Mon mouth, diod yesterday morning after an Illness of threo days, Professor Powell had been a resident of Monmouth for 20 years and n teacher in the Normal School slnco its establishment. Ho was well known all over tho stato and was at ono timo a teacher in tho Stato Reform school. Ho was in Salem last week in nia usual health, but was takon sick on Sunday, Ho was a member of tho Odd Follows, Woodmen and Fraternal Union. He leaves a wife and two children. The funeral was held this afternoon, and was attended by a number of Sa lem acquaintances of tho deceased. Leslie Church Entertains.
