Now wo ask the reader to read over and over again the evidence that Ma lor McKlnley does not believe a word he says upon this subject, or else that a few years ago ho did not mean what ho said when opposed to tho gold standard. . , In 18H8 tho Republican National Convention adopted the following resolutien: , , . "Tho Republican party Is In favor of the use of both gold and sliver as money, and condomns the policy or tho Democratic administration in Its efforts to demonetize silver." This resolution was roported from tho committco on resolution bvWIl Hani McKlnley, tho chairman of that coriimlttcc. It was adopted by tho committco after full consideration and debate, upon tho motion of Its author, the Honorablo William M. Stewart. The national convention adopted It without dissent. Sonator Stownrt canvassed several Wpstorn statos for Harrison, upon the faith of this pledge He assured tho advocates of f rco silver colnago that this resolu tion fully committed tho Republican party to the restoration of silver us money. Scuator Stowart nmdo It known at tho tlmo of tho adoption of this resolution that unless the con vnntlon would take that position he ..ould no longer remain In tho parly.
