Goodhue & Cahill. AsToniA & Eastern It. It. News of the most encouraging nat ure comes lu from the vicinity of the great tunnel on the route of the Astoria & Eastern railway. A gen tleman who came In from that point states that about 700 men are bunch ed on the last three miles of the road this side of the tunnel, and that but a short time will elapse be fore that portion of the road will be finished. All who have iupected the completed portions of the road eav that the work is as cood, if not better, than anything else, of the kind in the country, aud that no expense is being spared In that con struction. Where the route lies along that selected by William Iteid for the Astoria & South Coast many changes have been made and where Iteid intended puttiug in trestle work in crossing gulches JJr. Grofs is filling in by cutting immense quantities of rock, thereby making the roadbed one of the best ever built. It is expected that as soon ns the first consignment of rails ar rive here, cars will bo runnlDg from the seaside to the tunnel within a couple of weeks at farthest, as the Messrs. Corey Bros, aro confident that thev will lav threo miles of steel daily. It is even possible that the connection will be made be tween the tunnel and this city be fore the expiration of the present year, aud that tho citizens may have the pleasure of riding out be hind thoirou horse and viewing the picturesque scenery of tho Nehalem country, and inspecting its magnifi cent timber. Astorian. Better Service Wanted. The Board of railroad commissioners in Keasion in this city yesterday passed the following resolutien: "Whereas, This board lias been in formed and has personal knowledge of the fact that the Union Pacifio company carries only a conductor und one brakeman on the passenger trains over its mountain divisions between Portland and Huntington; Therefore bo it resolved that said company bo informed that it is the sense of this board that such service is not sufficient to adequately protect the traveling public against liability for accidents which might result from such service; also that it be re quested to put on two brakeraeu be tween Portland and Huntington on all of its passenger trains." All in It. If your baby is not In a cab it ought to be. That's the place for a well-regulated child es pecially when you can got the cab at such a bargain as Geo. F. Smith is offering." This forenoou as Contractor South wick aud his crew of workmen were engaged at tearing out tho old gallery of representatives hall in the State House, ft most ghastly sight mot their gaze. After Al. Mize had torn up a good strip of the floor he thought he would see what was under there anyway, ho was shocked at finding a complete skeleton, with nearly all the flesh decayed from it. He called up the boys, aud a hasty consultation was bad. Some decided that it was the remains of a mem ber of the territorial legid Ijiture, while others thought It might be a victim of the heavy de bates had by the last house. A full inquest will be appointed later. Up to the present time however, it is believed by all who have seen it, to be the mortal coil of some frieudly liouse-cat. Tho memorable expression of the Queen of Shebaon viewing the pomp and glories of KingSolomon's court, can with verity be used in speaking of tho trauscendeut splendors of tho gorgeous biblical spectacle, Solomon, his Temple, and the Queen of Sheba which the management of Robin son's show produce tills year on a scale of unexampled magnitude and splendor. No spectacle over pre sented to the public can vio with it in rich sceneographlc eflect; in faithful and characteristic portrait ures of tho people, manners aud customs during tho reign of Israel's wisest king; in pomp, in pageantry and in parade; in sacred sacrificial offerings; in lovely women; in en chanting ballets; In fiercely contest ed and exciting chariot races, and in the luxurious opulenceof itscostum lug aud appointments., Taken from the grandest scenes of tho patri archal era It cannot only Interest the biblical scholar, but tho moral, the cultured and the refined, seeking rfter intellectual aud mlud-improv-iug entertainment, will find in this an exhibition well worthy thoir at tention. Let it bo understood, however, that this desirable aug mentation is but one of tho multi tude of attractions to which tho Robinsou show Invites the patron age of the public. Their colossal Roman hippodrome Is lu itself a feature that has no duplication, and carries the spectator back to Imper ial Ciesar's days. In mentioning the enjoyment, surprises and de lights of this peerless exhibition it must not be forgotten to mention that for tho special delectation of juvenile patrons the ever delightful aud mirth-provoklug pautomlno of Humpty-Dumpty, his .Fortunes, Misfortunes and Mishaps, will find prominent place on tho programme.
