Strong's Bakery and Restaurant Immense Business. The most conspicuous display in the 4th of July procession at Salem was without a doubt the float re presenting Strong's bakery, and tlio ouo for-Westacott & Irwin's restaur ant. One was a literal bakery, with mammoth oven and bakers at work with real dough, while the other re presen'ed a dining room running in full blast. The guests were devour ing fried spring chicken, and r.ll the delicacies of tho season. No wonder these exhibits received the ffrst prize oll'ered by tho committee. The lirin would also havo had out a display from their wholesale houso on State street except for lack of time. At this establishment on Commercial street 0110 thousand guests were served on that day. They are prepared to double their capacity on such occasions, as they hrfve un additlanal range aud kitch en and need only to employ extra cooks and waiters. Ever since this llrm has taken hold of the restau rant their business has grown, un til today they have as heavy a run as any restaurant in the state, not excepting Freeman's, in Portland. Everything is bought at wholesale, their supplydepai tment representing tlie capacity of several stores. Flour is bought in car-load lots, aud other things in proportion. Tho retail de partment of this business ia of such proportions and growing so rapidly that enlarged quarters will soon be necesssary. The question will 110 doubt arise as to the cause of this phenomenal success, and one need only turn to tho energetic young men who conduct the busi ness for his answer. They thorough ly understand every detail of their business, aud are constantly ou the alert for improvements which will add to tlie comfort of their patrons. Their icecream business lias growu to such au extent that an ico house of 100 tons capacity has been put up, aud by another year a largo whole sale ice cream factory will be neces sary. This brauch of their business alone required six additional men on July 4th. FRUIT GROWERS OF MARION. Program of the July Meeting to Be Held at Silverton.
