The Salem local union of various Young People's Christian Endeavor Societies met ut the First Congrega tional church Thursday evening. RuporU of retiring officers for the year just ended were read. The new officers elected are: Pres ident, W. B. Peck, of the Presby terian church; vice-president Mis Nina McNary. Baptist church; sec retary, Allyn H. Cooke, Congrega tional church; treasurer, E. N. Starr, Christian church. The mutter of eeudiug a delegate to the Y. P. S. C. E. international convention to be held in New York City in July was discussed and a committee con sisting of E. J. McCaustlaud, Mrs. Leabo, Mrs. B. B. Cooke, E. N. Starr and Mlbs Addle Bowersox was ap pointed to see what arrangemeut9 could be made and report at the next meeting of the executive com mittee. The committee also recom mended that the new endeavor pa per published at Portland receive the hearty support of the local societies. The newly elected officers are active workers who will push the work not only in the city but throughout Marion county. The meeting called at the Willa mette narlors last evening was largely attended and everybody present was enthusiastic for a grana Fourth of July celebration and blow-out to be in keeping with the Columbian anniversary. 1892 is the year and Salem will have THE celebration. The meeting was called to order about 8 o'clock by Capt. M. W. Hunt. J. G. Wright was called to the chair and W. G. Westacott served as secretary. It was decided to celebrate in grand style, and the work was all placed in the bauds of the following named general cemmittee: I. L. Patterson, W. G. Westacott, T. H. Barues E. H. Flagg aud J. L. Mitchell. Sub-committees will bo duly appointed and work assigned. Tne matter of a military display for that occasion was fully discussed, The Woman has It. Mr. Eves now admits that his wife got the $.800, and completely retracts his statement that the money disap peared in the room at Hotel Willa. metle. Of course all who understood the rules of a large hotel never took any stock iu that claim. Col. Wagner aud his clerks handle thou sands of dollars for guests each month lu the year and no one ever lost a dollar. Prof. John Fisku Coming !
