There is a limit above which they aro not likely to rise. Freight from Eastern Oregon hire Is (5 76, which, added to (12.25 makes freight from Eastern Oregon to Liverpool (18 per ton. Wheat can be shipped by steamer fiom Sow Orleans to Liverpool for (5 per ton, which leaves (13 to pay freight from Eastern Oregou to New Orleans. Further rise in charters will tend to send Eastern Oregon wheat to New Orleans for shipment. IIATK WA1I. The Erie notified the Baltimore & Ohio sev eral days ago that If It did not with haw tho rate immediately, a rate of one fare would bo made to New York. Meagre reports from Martinquo inland which was swept by a cyclone yesterday the number of vessels lost as over 20. So fur as can be learned there are nearly, If not uuite, CO deaths as the result of the hurricane visit, but it will b: some time before the full ex tent of the disaster Is known. At Fort Dd France alone there are 12 lives lost and both FortDeFrauce uiid at Si. Pierre to say nothing of the country districts where the numbers of people are injured. At S. Pierre five persons are kuown to have been killed. This number dots not represent the entire loss of life, It Is excessively difficult to get de tailed news at present. Unptn't Know on Which Side. Captain Kenneth Prltchard, of tho British steamship Tangier, had quite a thrilling war experience while at Buenos Ayres. The steamer had been chartered to load cargo ot Liverpool for Buenos Ayres, and arrived at that port shortly after tho revolution had ceased. All largo vessels, such as the Tangier, were compelled to remain out In the Huenos Ayres Roads, which is about fourteen miles from the iort. Tho masters quartered themselves at the different hotels, and most of their business was dono ashore until the ves bcls were loaded or discharged, as tho case happened to be. On Slay 1 some littlo trouble again aroe between tho rebels and the gov ernment and another revolution was threatened. Tho troops began to Ore at all rebels, and within a short while firing was general on all sides. Captain Pritcliard was anxious to 6ee what was going on throughout the town, and meandered slowly in tho direction of tho arsenal. Before he had gotten far. however, ho was captured by two sol diers and led, at tho point of the bayo net, to tho arsenal. Ho was given a Winchester riile, and, by command of the officers in charge. wjui nomnelled to Join the warlike crowd. Without much complaint, but a great deal of nervous dissatisfaction, he began popping away at every ob ject in tho shape of a man who passed within rango of the arsenal. Hero lie was kept at work with ills rifle for threo hours, when ho was relieved and a picket put on guard. . An opportunity presented itself, and Captain Pritcliard slipped around the wall and escaped from his captors. He had gotten but a few yards from tho place when ho heard some grape shot whiz by him, and upon looking around ho saw two guns being used at the head of tho street to keep it clear. Captain Pritcliard, without much cere mony, dropped himself Into a threo foot gutter, and there remained with tho water streaming over him for about an hour, when tho firing ceased. After that evening tho captain did not trust himself far from the hotel until his steamer sailed. Ho bald ho fought hard, but ho has not learned whether ho was a govern ment soldier or a rebel, and he wasn't curious enough to ask. Baltimore American. The Women Conductor.
