THE CAPITAL EVESTNG JOURNAL. THE CAPITAL JOORIAL Lawyer and Editor. Queer world this! A lawyer nnd ! tin editor stood on a street eorner In au Ohio town and saw a man mur dered in cold blood. The murderer 13 a rich man, ai d after committing the deed he bald to the lawyer and editer: "Here Is a thousand dollars for each of you, defend me before the court and the people for the crime I have committed." They took the money and defended him in their own way nud according to their own profession editor through his paper and the lawyer through his mouth. The murderer through their joint efforts was acquitted. Jlutsee the difference mark the re sult. The people said: "The editor U a scoundrel, and did so for pay. 3iOl we will stop his paptr and not pjtronize him." The paper was stopped the editor ruined finan cially and reduced to a pauper. Jiut of the lawyer the people said: "He is an able man, deeply learned in the law, and deserves j.reatcredit for having obtained thercquittal of a man guilty of murder! We will give him our law buslne.-saud pay big fees." They made him a judge and as such he sent hif partuer, the editor, to the work-house, and said he was a bad man, and should not only be deprived of the means of living, but punished. We don't indorse the act of an edi tor in laboring for what is wrong or agaiast what is right for mouey but how about the lawyer? Leav enworth Times. Deainess Can't Be Cured By local applications, us they cannot reach the diseased portion or the ear. There Is only one way to cure deafness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafness Is caused by an luflamod condition of the mucus lining of tho eustachian tube. When this tube gets Inflamed you havoa rumbling sound or Imperfect hearing, and when It is entirely eloped, deafness Is the result, and unless the Inflnmafion can be taken out and this tube restored to Its nor mal condition, hearing will be destroyed forever; nine cases outof ten are caused by cntarrh,!whlch Is nothing but an Inflamed condition of tho mucus surfices. Wo offer One Hundred Dollars reward for any case of Cutarrh that cannot be cured by taking Hall's Catarrh Cure. Price 73c. per bottle. Bold by all drug- gists. F.J.Cheney it Co.. proprietors, Toledo, O: That Kansas editor who drew a crazy quilt iu a lottery and won it back again in his wife's lottery shortly afterwards, the moral being that it is very hard to get anything out of an editor, has attained im mortality, The item is now on its travels through Nebraska. We hope it will hurry up and reach the Pacific coast and start through China. All we want is a rest and the paragraph will take a little while to get through Asia and Africa and Europe, not to mention Australia, before it comes back to us via the east. We wouldn't mind so much if the item was printed in Mougol'ese, orTelugu, or Hottentot, or one of those breezy languages iu the middle of the Pacific ocean. We might head it, "A Short Dialect Story and get rid of it in that way, but in its present baldlieaded Amer ican form it threatens to destroy the littlo remaining reason of our ex change editor.
