A remarkable suit wilt soon lie brought before the criminal court of London, tht iuupc-.s of which nj as follews: On the twentieth of May, Dr. JL, a distinguished pulmonary special ist, was consulted by a man so skel eton like in appearance that he could scarcely be recognized as a member of the human family. After a careful examination the" doctor said; "I can do nothing for you; within eight days you will be dead." With the calmness of despair, the young mau, aided by his servant, prepared to depart. A'i ho was about to cross the threshold Dr. li. detained him a moment and asked: "Are you rich?" "Very a millionaire "in fact," replied the wretched man. "Then order your coachman to drive you to Victoria station, start to Dover to-day by the eleven o'clock train, take pas sage on a steamer for Marseilles, . and thence by rail to Nice. For six months should God spare your life eat neither bread, nor meat, nor fruit, neither drink wine; but eat cress and only cress; even drink the broth of it. By this means only can your life be saved, if sucli a thing is possible.. The method is rather a strange one, but I offer it to a dying man; try it." i a Six months lator a robust young man crossed the anteroom where a number of patients were' wait ing and entered the office of Dr. B. At sight of the famous physi cian, tears filled his eyes, and rush-J ingupto him, he embr.o:m him and said, "My dear doctor, will yon accept a million, two millions?" "Are you crazy?" asked the doc tor. "No, no, I am sane, but I realize that you have saved mv life. Don't you know me? I know you. I am P , the millionaire, whom you saved from an inevitable death by your wonderful treatment. For six months I carefully obeyed your orders and took your inestimable cress-prescription. My improve ment was so miraculous that I am now in excellent health," and, to verify Ills remarks, he beat his chest vigorously with his fist. "What, what!" exclaimed the astonished physician, "you are the man upoii whom i expenmentcu with cress?" "Yes I am he," responded the young man; "I returned to this city yesterday, and come to you to-day to express my gratitude." Tho doctor signed to his assistant to withdraw, and then quickly draw ing from his pocket a small revolver he leveled it, and in au insfant, his patient fell dead at his feet. Without a moment's delay lie commenced to make a post mortem examination. When the police nr rived ho was oxaminingthe lungs of f his victim with a microscope and studying the effect of cress upon tho diseased parts. To the officer of the law ho said: "I killed this man for au immediate autopsy, in order to discover a mystery which may bo a boon to all mankind; for this reason I do not hesitate to sacrifice mvself to tho demand of science." Adopted from Romaic. A WOMAN'S WAY. A Startling Business Proposition.
