It is a symptom of general wortlilessness and shows that tho risen generation of our young men have been educated to Idleness, shlftlessness and a" disposi tion to slum work and seek for "soft places." Wi: hardly know whom to blame most, tiioso who disregard tlio con stitution or those who nro forever urging frivolous objections as con stitutional. We have tlio most Miered regard for constitutional law, but perhaps those who Interpose objeo.lons to a proposed measuro nnd lightly refer to tlio constitution when it lias not a thing to do with tlio matter, are the worst enemies of thul highest law. The discovery of the silver mine in West Virginia by tho old slave who disclosed it to his son not 1pm: aco reminds us of the discovery of the celebrated mine of Golconda by a slave iu the early settlement of Spanish America and of the fact that about all the great discoveries of tlio great reserves hidden in the mountains and desert regions wher ever made were by poor wandering men and by poor settlers. So long as a state like Oregon invites only men of capital and town builders her great resources must forever lie hidden. A thousand men wander ing about among her hills and val leys prospecting for homes and min erals will do more, iu ono month, than whole generations of citizens congregated in towns, towards dis covering the treasures of coal, rock, marble, precious metals and stones, etc., that He hidden in strange out of the way places. Intelligent, en terprising laboring people are what we want here. Already there are enough professionals and capltulistss and real estate dealers 'here to sup ply the wnnta of a million inhabi tants in their line.
