JaekHon, editor of the Advance, u democratic paper. The liiNtriniient of warfaie used by Mr. Chalineix in Ills oiK'iiing argument wim a heavy iimo, wltli which ho pounded JaekHon into tuicouscloiiHiichH. The two chief candidates for the presidency, JIarrion and Cleveland, have hent forth tlicir letters of ac ceptance in which each has explain ed his ideas on tho Important questions now dividing tlier two parties. There are only three days difference in the dates of the docu ments; therefore, there can Imj no advantage in the last iy. It will be unnecessary to assert that the writer Is a republican and yet he is confi dent that, as a democratic docu ment, Cleveland's letter of accep tance Is u strong paper. All the democrats look upon it as such; and whv should It be otherwise? There Is no question but that the best talent and wisdom of the leaders of the party have been consulted, and every sentence, every phrase and thought fully weighed and consid ered, before lcing used. The letter also shows Unit it was so made by Its volubility on some questions and "nothing to say" on others; while the facts of history show that it lias licen a long time under way. As a democratic document in this campaign it fills the eye of a large majority of Mr. Cleveland's sup porters and Is considered just the proper thing. Many democrats do not endorse the democratic platform, and to those the letter Is not consid ered a very strong paper. Itcpubli caus in general look upon the letter and platform of the democrats as being weak, and in that sense do so criticise Cleveland's letter. Harri son's letter does not show that nmount of work exhibited by Cleve land's. It Is a straightforward, manly letter. Kvcry note is clear, and cannot be mistaken. Is is con cise, not too long and yet long enough to fully coverall the ground. As a republican document, follow ing the republican platform, it could hardly be surpassed. And yet our democratic friends pronounce it "light reading." Taken all In all the two letters are as ably written and as good exponents of their re HH'cttve pintles as should have been ejqM'cted. ttnrklen Arnica SaItc.
