Join ing the fishing party was Christine Winters of Harper, Randy Winters of Homedale, Mrs. Martha Buttrum and son Tony of Fruitland, also Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stewart of Fruitland who joined them after visiting in Portland. Everyone got wet and cold and the lucky ones caught fish. Some caught one while others caught three apiece. The Stewarts were fortunate enough to catch twelve. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Shaw Sr. and Christine Winters retur ned home through Prineville, Idaho to' visit relatives. Sherry Fitzsimmons of Pa yette stayed with Phyllis. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Payne visited Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Steelman of Eagle then went to Nampa to visit Mrs. Payne’s mother, Mrs. Wil liam Newell on her 81st birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Collard from Cambria were dinner guests of the Paynes Sunday, on their way to Big Creek, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Botsoen of Spokane have spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Harley Sager. Harley and Bertha Sager and family visited the Harley Sagers over the 4th. They also came down for Bertha's class reunion at Fruitland. They are from Hermiston. John and Sue DeAngelis of California were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Fischer. The DeAngelis family were on their way to get a son, Ron, who has been working at Clearwater, Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Ballard Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Keck, and Janice Evans were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Coward. They got 15 bass and lots of crawdads. Mr. , and Mrs. Willard Wallace of Payette. Frank's sister came Saturday evening and will fish there till Tuesday. It started raining there at 7 a.m. Sunday morning and was still raining heavy at 3 p.m. when the Rhodes started home. United Methodist Church Ice Cream & Cake Punch or Coffee James J. Fleming camo to Nyssa in 1922 and stayed until 1923. During his mi nistry here, the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches were united. While James J. Fleming was pastor of Wilder, he had a dream of building a chapel in the Sawtooth Mountains after his retirement in May 1973. He passed away in Jerome. Idaho at the age of 86. His dream will become a reality in August. The Saw tooth Valley Meditation Cha pel will be open to worship pers of all faiths. Apple Veiley Hems Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Shep pard were visited Saturday by their son Johnny and grandson Doug who came from Ontario to help with some yard work. Guests in the Waldo Smalley home this week were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Evans of Nu Acres who visited Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Taylor had houseguests all week, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Taylor of Nashville, Bobby’s parents. During their visit in Idaho, the Johnny Taylor’s have been to Cascade fishing and to Wilt's train depot among other things. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Seward took their grand- children to a Boise park this week where they spent the afternoon feeding the ducks and taking in the park's amusement center. The sister-in-law of Mrs. Elmer Smith, Lila Mullin of Parma, spent a few hours with Mrs. Smith this week. Mrs. Smith and her niece Charlene Hurd went to Caldwell for the afternoon on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Rook stool returned this weekend from a month-long trip that took them through Wyoming and Nebraska. In Wyoming the Rookstools visited Mrs. Rookstool's sister, Sarsh Yingling. While in Nebraska, the Rookstoois' attended a school reunion at which approxi mately 300 people attended. Also during their stay, they helped celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of some former classmates. The Rook stools had a very enjoyable time visiting with old friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Seward returned Friday night from a two-day camping trip to Redfish Lake. They went with a couple from Nampa, Mr. and Mrs. Rob Jamison. Oregon and Robert Leuck. Chula Vista, California. There were eight children born to Frank and Minnie Leuck. early citizens of Nyssa. The oldest son. Harry F. Leuck passed away two weeks before the reunion and had intended to be present with old friends and his family. Another child died in infancy. The Rev. Henry J. Gern hardt Sr., passed sway at Twin Falls, Idaho, July 16, 1977. Beginning in 1914, he ministered to Methodist con gregations in Indiana. North Dakota, Nyssa. La Orande, and Twin Fils, Idaho. He retired in 1965 due to 111 health and continued his membership in Twin Falls. He also served as supply pastor in Twin Falls Church of the Bretheran and the Community Church of Bliss. Nursing Home To Have Dance A dance will be held at the Malheur Memorial Nursing Home Friday. July 29 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. There will be live music and friends and family members of residents of the home and all who are interested in having a good time are invited to attend. Rupubicon Women Aloof The Malheur County Re publican Women held their second meeting July 14 at the Pioneer Nursing Home In Vale. The main objective of the organization is to inform and educate; to help improve the lines of communication between Eastern Oregon and Salem. The second Thursday of each month, starting in September, will be the regular meeting day. Each meeting will have an infor mational program offered by a member or a guest speaker. Government at a local, state and federal level will be the topics. An effort to interest as many of the women in Malheur County as possible is being made and they are looking for more members in Vale. Nyssa, Ontario, and outlying communities.
