Your County Agent Says Haying time is here and the perennial question of "What's the price of Hay?" comes again. Growen should be aware that the Oregon Hay Growen Association, headquartered at Hermiston make available a twice monthly hay sales report either by subscribing to their Hay Market Report by mail or by calling 567-2583, Hermiston. The phone report is on tape and is updated weekly. It coven hay sales reported in or gathered by phone from hay producing areas of Washington. Oregon and California. The May 24 report indi cated some early tint cutting at $60 00 to $65.00 t.o.b. roadside in the Hermiston area and $50.00 to $65.00 out of the field with specified minimum protein for dairy hay also in the Hermiston area. Some full season contract ing at a base price to be determined by local market averages with $3.00 per protein point premium above 16.5% and $3.00 discount per point below 16.5% is report ed in the Hermiston area. Discriminating dairymen are beginning to show real interest in buying by test and growers who do a good job of producing and harvesting high protein hay are finding that testing helps them sell to best advantage. Washington hay growers are getting $55.00 to 60.00 f.o.b. stack for first cutting. Northern California reports indicate $80.00 to $90.00 per ton for top quality alfalfa. Anyone wanting more in formation on the Oregon Hay Growers Association market information program may call 567-5591 at Hermiston or the Extension Office at 889-9129 in Ontario. a • a "Il la comforting te know that the God who guides ua, sees tomorrow more clearly than wo see yeeterdav."
