I'm Proud Of My Town | Activities In Arcadia News From Big Bend I »7 G«W»* Robert,J The eighth grade class taught by Mrs. Carol Hoff recently wrote some articles on "I’m Proud of My Town." Here are four of the better entries, and we'll publish more at a later date. "I'm Proud of My Town" By Alice Guerra Even though I’ve always dreamed of living in a big city. I'm glad that I live here, in Nyssa. Oregon, home of the "Bulldogs " There's not much to see in this little town of Nyssa. If you're passing by. it's really rather an ugly town. But remember, "don't judge a book by its cover." and stay awhile. There’s always something going on. Just think about it! Wou ldn't you rather live in a place where you can walk at night in the streets without being mugged, go trick-or-treating without worrying about some one drugging your candy, or putting razor blades in your apple? Wouldn't you rather live in a place you could trust? I am very proud of living here, in Nyssa. “I’m Proud of My Town" By Whitni Morrison Am I proud of my town. Nyssa. Oregon? You bet I am! Nyssa is a small town of about 3.000 people. It's located just west of Boise. Idaho in Oregon. Almost two summers ago our high school, gymnasium, and cafeteria burned. Instead of shipping our students off to other schools, the town's people gave of themselves by letting our students use their churches for a band room, a choir room, and a gymnasium. Several people also gave of their time and knowledge for getting p|ans for our new school started, and then getting them voted on. After the plans were accepted they got the building contractors to start work. The other main reason I'm proud of my town is that 1 feel safe. Even late at night 1 feel safe to walk all the way through town to my friend's house. These are only two of the very many reasons for which 1 am proud of Nyssa. Yes. 1 am proud of my town. “1 am Proud of My Town" By Michael Blaylock Why am 1 proud of my town? I'm proud of my town because it is small. It doesn’t have the confusion of the cities. It isn't very crowded, with a population 2,710, so I have room to breathe. I also like the fact that I know almost everybody, and people are willing to help whenever there is a need. To illustrate this, two years ago when the school burned down, the local churches all Thursday, April 22, 1976 Nyssa Gate City Journal. Nyssa, Oregon Page Eight helped by providing music and physical education faci lities. I am proud of my town because it is safe to walk the streets at night. 1 also like the wide variety of weather we have, from snow in the winter to 100 deg. F. in the summer. I like mv school which provides activities of many kinds and the teachers aren't too strict. But the main reason I'm proud of my town Nyssa, is because it is in Malheur County, in the state of Oregon, in the United States of America. "I’m Proud of My Town" by Kavlene Robbins I'm proud of my town because we have the coopera tion of the people. It was the summer of 74. three days after school was out, when our school burned down. The people got busy and helped support our school. We now use churches for some of our classes. We also use an old store that was no longer being used. A small part of the school is still standing, and we use that. As you can see it doesn't take much room for classes because Nyssa is a small town with a population of 2,710. Although Nyssa is small, there are enough stores to supply all the things we might need. ■ Nyssa has many friendly people. Theke people work together to get things so that we have just as much to offer as other communities. One of the things I like most, of all is the good school system we have. We also have a nice swimming pool, library, bow ling alley and three public parks. One other thing I like is the big sugar factory we have. Nyssa is a small, friendly town in Oregon located right along the Idaho border. To appear in municipal court on the charge are Clifford Beckstead. 62. Nyssa Elaine G. Olson. 45. Nyssa; Dennis Chavez, 39, Nyssa, and Ravnaldo Gonzales. 21, Nyssa.
