W. R Ashby, one of the new settlers, were married last Sunday in the Temple at Salt Lake City. They returned to Nyssa Monday and will make their home at the K.S. and D. Ranch where Mr. White is employed by Angus Bishop. * a a A big picnic excursion, one that will rival the celebration when the Owyhee Dam was completed, is planned for Sunday. April 26 at the dam. I he affair is sponsored by the Vale Owyhee Land Settle ment Association, who are planning a genuine red-letter day for that date. The celebration will mark the filling of the Owyhee Dam. which mean* an assured water supply for the Owyhee project and enduring prosperity for the Nyssa country. It is something worth celebrating and the committee ha» decided to make it a real event. Due to the roadbed condi tions and danger of accident* it will be unlikely that the railroad to the dam will be utilized for excursion pur poses but people will journey Page Three to the dam in their own cars to the scene of the affair. 50 YEARS AGO Mrs. Agne» Hamaker who ha* resigned her position at Wilson Brother Store, will leave this Friday evening for Meridian, Idaho, to make her home. Her place has been taken by Gertrude Wilson. Mrs. Hamaker has many friends here who sincerely regret her departure, and the band will miss Bobby and his snare drum. 60 YEARS AGO G. B. Wilis, who has been in the dray business in Nyssa ever since the town was discovered is now the proud possessor of an elegant and substantial motor truck, which arrived from Portland last Sunday. It has a powerful four-cylinder engine and will carry two tons, without an effort. It was made by G.M. Company of Detreat and cost a pile of money, but Mrs. Wills' business has grown along with Nyssa to such proportions that he found some rapid means of transit necessary. The faithful old sorrels have been relegated to the barn, but will still be useful when storms rage and road* are bad. fo.- even a motor truck which cost a small fortune has its limi tations. Mr. Wills received the car Sunday, and although he had never before had hold of the steering apparatus of a car, he started out on the milk route early Monday morning and returned with a full load of milk for the cheese factory without mishap. He now drives the car with all the confidence of a veteran chauffeur and wonders how he ever got along without it. Anyway, it adds immensely to the city-like appearance of the Nyssa streets.
