Band and Chorus. April 8 • School Board Meeting Baseball, Vale JV at Adrian. 4 p.m. Junior Bowlers Hold Annual Tournament Recently the Sugar bowl held their annual Junior Bowling Tournament. Bowlers from Nyssa who were stand outs in the tournament were Bantams - Daren Orosco did as well as anyone when he was a member of the Hotdogs Team who took first place in the team event. He also, partnered with Ronnie Ro binson came in first in doubles with 973 scratch, 1099 handicap. Orosco went on to the singles events both scratch and handicap when he bowled 499-562 and then went on to capture the All Events division 1456 scratch and 1647 handicap. Other winners from Nyssa in the Bantam Division were: Singles - 4 Tony Franklin 519; Doubles 2. Joe Gamer- Frank Salinas 1056; All Events 3, Joe Gamer 1606 4. Ronnie Robinson 1558. Junior Boy winners were: in the team event the Nyssa Miss Fits tied with a team from Homedale. In Junior Boys Division the Nyssa winners were: Singles ■5. Troy Calhoun 609, and doubles 3. Lance Koler-Ro ger Haney 1143. Junior Girls Division saw a team from Homedale with 2 members from Nyssa take first place. The Nyssa mem bers were Jolyn Garner and Sara Marcum. Singles 5. Sara Marcum 585 Doubles: 1st. Jolyn Garner-Terri Morrison 1165. 4 Cheryl Pounds-Emily Wiley 114. All Events 3. Jolyn Garner 1739. 1st. in Al) Events scratch was Sara Marcum 1522. The Senior Division in the boys division, singles 2. Larry Haney 654. 3. Bill Marcum 651 and the Senior Giris division Shelley Myrick and Sara Marcum captured the first place trophy in doubles. High scratch game for girls in the tournament was Irene Halbert of Ontario with a 217-212-205-634 for also the high scratch series and her first 600 series. The boys high scratch game was Steve Ford of Nampa with a 266 but Vern Evans of Halfway had high scratch series with a 239-218-181 - 638. MnLCOLDClfLiMDC öUrxlrrarnlKt_ The Nyssa Bulldogs opened the baseball season in good style Thursday by winning both ends of a double header against the Vikings from Umatilla 5-0 and 7-6. The Bulldogs opened the first game of the doublehea der with a 5-0 win on the almost flawless pitching of Bill Marcum who in his first start of the season, not only went the full route of the 5 inning game, but held the Vikings to two harmless hits, striking out seven and walking none. The Bulldogs gave Mar cum all the support he needed with 2 runs in the first inning and three more in the third. The big bats for the Bulldogs were Joe Joyce and Norberto Lopez who rapped out 2 hits each. In the nightcap. Umatilla jumped into the lead in (he first with 2 runs and 3 in the second before the pitching started bearing down. The Bulldogs could gamer only one run in each of the first two innings and going into the fouth were behind 5-2 and Umatilla came up with another run to put the Bulldogs in the hole 6-2 but the Bulldogs came to life when Ernie Delgado walked Greg Moffis singled and Kent Blanch brought both of the runners in on a single right up the middle. Tim Mecham was walked and Marcum loaded the bases with a single. Brad Holcomb Local Girls Place In USGF Tourney gvmnastics sports Girls from the Boise gym nastic club walked away with most of the honors at the U.S. Gymnastics Federation meet held Saturday at Ontario High School, but some local girls, including Janet Beckett of Payette, did place. She made her mark taking third intermediate bars, ju niors division. Sheri Hintz of Payette came away with a fourth and fifth in interme diate vault and beam, seniors division. Dina Hirai of Nyssa placed fourth in intermediate floor exercise, juniors division, while Leslie Lane of Nyssa came in third in beginning vault, juniors division. Nyssa Coach Judy says, "I am very proud girls and feel they did well. I hope this meet will give them enough confidence to com pete at the Boise meet on April 10.” The six Nyssa girls enter ing in competition were: Junior High ■ Kris Savage, beam; Dina Hirai, floor, beam bars and vault; Tanya Atagi, bars and vault; Leslie Lane and Ayde Mosqueda, floor, beam, bars and vault. The Vikings came up to bat in the last inning and with 2 on base on walks and one out Bill Marcum came in to pitch and put out the fire and save the game for the Bulldogs. Nyssa Track shot putter was a first place winner in the Bronco invitational track and field meet Friday and Saturday at Boise. John threw the shot 53 ft 9'-i inches to win the prep competition by more than 3 feet. The only other Nyssa trackman to place in the top three was Jeff Hipp who placed 3rd in the 400 meter race. Other Nyssa trackstcrs to compete in the meet were Curtis Moncur. Clark Kido, Eric Vanetti. Don Laurence and Ron King. NYSSA », WEISER 0 The Nyssa Bulldogs Var sity baseball team chaulked up iheir third straight win Monday when they defeated Weiser 6 to 0. Bill Marcum went the distance on the mound. He struck out 7 and w alked 3 and gave up 4 scattered hits out no runs for the second straight shutout. Kevin Cleaver was the big stick of the game when he hit a triple, a double and a single. Greg Moffis also get a double while Marcum. Joyce. Oldemeycr and Haney each collected a single for Nyssa's 8 hits. The Bulldogs are now 3-0 for the season. They will face Baker in a doubleheader on Friday at Nyssa. Jr. High Wrestles In Vallivue Tournament The Nyssa Seventh Grade Wrestling Team returned home the proud possessors of a second-place trophy earned through competition at the Vallivue Tournament last Saturday. First place winners were. Bert Cleaver. 75 pounds and David Moffis. 103 pounds. Second place honors went to Gilbert Vielma. 89 pounds; Mark Needs. 110 pounds and Eddie Tooley. 152 pounds. Finishing in third place were Ales Contreras. 82 pounds; Salvador Haro. 110 pounds and Jay Gome/a. 131 pounds Fourth place went to Scott Munn, 75 pounds; Mark Pittz. I0J pounds and Robert Sells. UNL.
