Bulldogs Continue Win Streak, 58-14 Friday the Crook County Cowboys descended on Bull dog territory at Nyssa, but the Bulldogs were not very hospitable as they trounced the Cowboys 58 to 14. Scoring six times in the first half the Bulldogs rode high and hard for 504 yards total offense to plaster Crook County in their first Greater Oregon League opener. Brad Holcomb scored the first touchdown on a 3 yard pass from Neal Oldemeyer that was set up by a pass from Oldemeyer to Bill Marcum for 24 yards. Luis Mosqueda kicked the PAT. Then Pro Escobedo rambled for 19 yards and Nyssa's second TD Brad Holcomb then inter cepted a Crook County pass and ran 55 yards for his second touchdown and a 19 to 0 score at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter opened with Nyssa scoring at will. Neal Oldemeyer scored on a 5 yard keeper. Dirk Sappe then rushed 15 yards for another touchdown for the Bulldogs. Luis Mosqueda then scam pered for 8 yards and another touchdown. Pro Escobedo kicked the PAT and Nyssa led at halftime 38 to 0. Coach An Bullock then retired his first string back- field at the half and replaced them with juniors HB Alberto Escobedo and Greg Moffis and sophomores Ernie Del gado and QB Jim Wilson with no appreciable different re sults. Coach Bullock cleared his benches in the second half and all did a good job. Scoring in the second half were Alberto Escobedo who scored two on runs of 7 and 15 yards. The PAT was a pass from Pro Escobedo to Bill Marcum. Greg Moffis scored the last touchdown on an 8 yard rush and the score ended 58 to 14. ■ Prudencio Escobedo ran 84 yards on 5 carries. Luis Mosqueda 86 on 10 and Greg Moffis 85 on 14. Dirk Sappe 50 on 6 and Alberto Escobedo 32 on 7 to tatal 347 yards rushing. Neal Oldemeyer completed 6 of 11 passes for 105 yards including one TD pass to Brad Holcomb. Jim Wilson completed 2 for 2 for 52 yards. Bill Marcum had 6 receptions for 117 yards for Nyssa. The Boosters touchdown came when Ricky Harris ran 70 yards to set up the score and Gary South ran the ball for the touchdown. The Nyssa Boosters play Mathews Chevrolet Saturday at 10 a.m. on the Junior High Field in Ontario. October 3. at 8 p.m. The Nvssa Junior Varsity football team were hosted by Middleton last Thursday and came home with their third win against no losses by trouncing Middleton 52 to 10. Nyssa scored 3 times in the first quarter one each by Jose DeLeon. Jim Wilson and Ernie Delgado and held Middleton scoreless. In the second quarter Eric Vanetti scored a touch down. Middleton scored a safety when the center hiked the ball over the head of the kicker and he was tackled in the endzone for 2 points. Halftime score was 24 to 2. In the third quarter Nyssa scored twice when Kirt Michaels ran 20 yards to pay dirt and Ernie Delgado scampered 10 yards to make the score 36 to 2. Middleton «cored their only touchdown in the fourth quarter but Nyssa came back with 2 TD's by Darrel South and the extra points were made by Mike Johnson and Eric Vanetti to end the scoring at 52 to 10. N 18 6 12 16 ■ 52 0 8-10 M 0 2 Nyssa is not to be out done- This fall there are 12-15 girls interested in sports that take a lot of conditioning such as field hockey. In field hockey, there are eleven players. 5 foreward*. 3 halfbacks. 2 fullbacks and one goalie. The girl* u»c sticks of 35" to 40" with a flat side with which to hit the hall which is 3'ri" in diameter The girl* use shin guard* and the goalie has special chest protector as special equip ment. The rule* of field hockey are different and the girts are learning fundamental* after school and in their advanced P E das*. Girls participating in this sport are: Sara Marcum, Donna Oldemeyer. Debbie Simantel, Cyd Morrison. Lon Lane. Carolyn Webb. Cindy Johnson, Stacy Glenn. Anita Zuniga, Julie Garner and Judy Mecham. The girls are coached bv Jolene Reece. The field hockey team went to Caldwell recently for a scrimmage game that Cald well won 12 to 0. They played 2-25 minute halves. In the first half Caldwell scored only 2 goal* then the second half. Caldwell put in another team but Nyssa only had 11 players and they played the whole game and Caldwell scored 10 points in the second half. The Nyssa field hockey team travels to Bishop Kelly on October 13. for a match. Adrian Giri* Thursday, September 25 Adrian 1, Vallivue 0 Adrian's girls hockey team won their first game of the season. Thursday, Septem ber 25. on their home field against Vallivue They were victorious with a 1-0 score. The winning point was made by team center. Louise Shenk. There are forty girl* on the Adrian team. Oct. 13 Adrian at Middleton. (k tobcr 15. Oldemeyer <S Norland Jr. Horseshoe Winners Paul Norland won the city sponsored Junior Horseshoe Tournament on Saturday, September 27 at the Lion's Park. In a Sentry Round- Robin. Paul finished with a perfect score of 10 wins and no defeats. Donna Oldemeyer cap tured second place and proved there is a place for women in horseshoe competi- tition as well. Donna and Robert Ziegen- bein finished the league play in a “7 wins and 5 losses" tie for second place. In the subsequent playoff Donna made it two straight games over Robert which cinched second place.
